Migrating to smaller notebook on portable Version
I have been using portable licensed EPIM on a 1024x768 Notebook for a number of years. I am trying to migrate to a 10" notebook on V.3 Beta 3 with little success the application fails to load altogether with a message error at address 0000000 which becomes error 0000008 after clicking OK - then I have to kill it through Task Manager.
V.2.8.1 portable which I use concurrently works on both machines without problems. V.3 works on my 1024x768 Notebook but not on the 10" machine. Using a USB stick also fails to get EPIM working on the smaller screen machine. They both have identical settings XP with Service pack 2. The only difference is that the 10" is a twin chip.
Am I missing something here? Is it on account of the screen size, or is there some new security feature that prevents me from using the software on two machines? I have a license for the release version and the BETA was downloaded after receiving a formal email notification from EPIM admin - yes, a former beta tester.
Any help would be appreciated as I would like to use EPIM on my new machine as I phase out the old one ...

Re: Migrating to smaller notebook on portable Version
Yesterday I posted this information in the wrong thread at: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7142#p30291 - regarding my new computer which will not load V.3 RC1 BETA with unusual peculiarities when the V3 exe is placed in V2.8.1 environment.
I would like to use my EPIM as I have a lot of data. Please advise what I should do. What additional software I need to get this working. The present situation is unaccptable. There is no logic to what EPIM is doing.
And yet more, I tried my USB stick version (V.3 RC1) on 15 computers at work today and it loaded on some and not on others with the same error. The failure rate was 6 out of 15.
I can now add more information. My old notebook has been completely overhauled, has a brand new hard drive with a clean install of XP Service pack 2 as per the screenshot which I got back today. EPIM does not load on a clean install XP. This is the second clean install on this computer that does the same thing (save for the brand new Hard drive in this instance.Ok, I have more information to share to get this issue resolved because BETA 3 RC1 does not open on my XP (Revision 2) system and it is similar to the error message in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7089.
Towards solution, firstly, this is the error message that XP prepares when EPIM crashes:
szAppName : EssentialPIM.exe szAppVer : 3.0.0.0 szModName : hungapp
szModVer : 0.0.0.0 offset : 00000000
C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WEReb93.dir00\EssentialPIM.exe.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WEReb93.dir00\appcompat.txt
Secondly, if you take the V2.8.1 Portable and unzip it and copy the V3.Beta exe into that environment then EPIM V3.BETA opens up as it should. This should point to errors somewhere in the coding - surely???
Of course, it opens the software, and can create a new database, but cannot open an old database as the previous version dll's do not accommodate the V3 table structures. The error message is that the software expects "x" number of tables, but has found "X" tables in database. I'm not a developer, but logically, this would point to a coding error in how EPIM V3 dll's engage XP runtime files. It is not however up to me to solve the problem - my knowledge does not extend that far.
Any ideas???

Sorry, here's the screenshot ...
And note it is not a theme issue that prevents EPIM loading. It did the same before I changed the theme from a standard Windows XP theme ....

It's not about money. It's about years of data not being able to be accessed. I really don't understand the issue here.lameduck, if you wish I think we better make a full refund to you.
Let me qualify it:
1. Two computers with clean installs of XP Service Pack 2, neither can load V3 EPIM
2. Version 2.8.1 works perfectly
3. When I try other computers with my data of various flavors of XP, some work and others don't. This is a problem????
What on earth is the issue here.
Understand, I am not complaining, even though you cut my previous posts as though I was some mass murderer, I am not looking for a fight, I just want access to my data in this version. I like EPIM, I use it every day.
My question is a simple one. What do I need to make this work. It can't be that difficult. Surely. Version 2.8.1 works on all versions of XP I have. So why doesn't this one.
Is there something I can do to make it work? This is the question and not about money (refund).
Really though, whats a few dollars gonna do for me when I religiously use diary software. That's my issue and not money. Come on ... I am asking for help and not complaining .... Look into the problem and let me know what I can do - it is as simple as that .... Is there something I can add to XP. Do I need to install some software, dll's etc. Th problem cannot be that great - whatever it is it was introduced in this version as the previous version works ....

Re: Migrating to smaller notebook on portable Version
I am sorry I can not spend as much time on this as I did in the past. I hope I will have to reply once.
- not sure if the problem so serious, because we do not see any pattern of this problem on other users' machines.
- because no other users have confirmed particularly this error on XP, not sure if it is not particular to your machines (even considering 2.81 works fine)
- to try to fix it, we need to reproduce it. So far without luck
- version 3.0 has a lot of new code. It is impossible to say what can be the difference that cause this on your machines
So unless situation somehow evolves (i.e. we get more reports on this and than we can be sure the problem is not particular to your machines and then we can see if there are patterns), or just use the 2.81, or get refund.
