Option to open internal links in main window

Post by MetalDrop »

Right now the only way you can work with internal links is ctrl+left click which opens them in a separate window.
I'd like to suggest also adding Alt+Left click to open/go to that entry in the main window.

This would be a particularly handy feature request if it was combined with the global back and forward function request.

To navigate data faster in the main interface of course, also data security. It's a little feature but really it could make a for a big change as it would allow Wiki style workflows and navigation. Especially under v7. It would not be as useful under v6 as it's too time consuming to make local links but with the @ fast linking internal main window link navigation and back/forward commands you would be able to navigate EPIM just like a wiki or wikipad/wikibook.

As for the data security opening extra windows is nice I don't ever want to see that removed as it's great for reference, but often you really just want to go to that link in the main interface, especially when you are doing heavy writing as the edit windows are not automatically being saved to the database. During a program crash, power outage...etc if you have an hour of writing in a popup link edit window that hour is lost. (There's no way to save your work in them well working without click the okay button and having to re-opening the window again which is a horrible break of workflow and super easy to forget to do. It's also not always possible if you've navigated away from where that link was in the main window for reference.) On the other hand when working in the main window data is being saved to the database pretty often so only a small faction of data is lost if any.

yes, please make that feature available
so we can have a direct "go to linked item"
in the main window as-well.

Re: Option to open internal links in main window (and in another instance of EPIM as-well)

maybe you can also make it possible
that a link could open an item in another open INSTANCE of EPIM
(aka multiple instances of EPIM open at the same time)

and then "go to that item"
in that other instance as-well.

thank you.
