Discussion of EssentialPIM for Android and synchronization

More Samsung Sync problems

Postby jsaxon » Thu Aug 09, 2012 5:02 am

My desktop runs Win7 Pro sp1 32bit and is p to date with MS updates. It's running the standard Windows firewall with EPIM enabled in both directions. The system is running EPIM Pro 5.02. The system LAN is via D-Link DI-624S.
The Android phone is a Samsung I9003 Running Android 2.3.6. The EPIM App is Vrs 1.3.6. The phone is running Avast! anti-virus Vrs 1.0.2129.
Setting up the sync I am using IP 192.168.0.102 Port 21114. The App reports that the phone is connected to my LAN via Wi-Fi.
All PC Sync attempts end with the error message "Connection Error: Unable to connect to Server. Check firewall settings on your computer".
So far I have tried.
1. Disabling the WIn7 Firewall - both Home and Private networks - same error.
2. Un-installing Avast! on the phone - same error.
3. Both disabled - same error.
4. Connecting via 3G instead of Wi-Fi - same error.

Not too sure about D-link filtering/port forwarding settings - but I presume they might not be important when connecting directly to the LAN via Wi-Fi.

Any further suggestions gratefully received.

Yes, port forwarding isn't relevant if you're trying to connect within the same network. It becomes relevant when connecting via 3g. Maybe you should try to enable 21114 port forwarding to your PC in your router config to further test 3G connectivity.. Just make sure you connect to the external IP address of your router in this case.

I'm pretty sure that I got the 'Virtual Server' settings in my D-Link correct - also used the external IP address in the EPIM App. But no luck I'm afraid. Still the request to check the firewall - turned off the windows one as well - but still the same error.
Any other suggestions please?

That's very odd. Please have a look at the following topic in the help file, maybe you're missing something?

Thanks for the link - and yes, I tried a few more tweaks to the Windows Firewall from there. Also disabled Microsoft Security essentials as well as the Windows Firewall, but still the same error message {:-((
I really like EPIM (better than MS Outlook :-) and it syncs well with my Google account - I guess I'll just have to forget Sync'ing with Android for the moment. Just proves that every PC system is different.
