Printing ToDos - PC Load A4

Postby outatime » Sun Oct 07, 2007 5:21 pm

My EssentialPIM / EPIM Synchronizer / HotSync version:
My EssentialPIM edition: EssentialPIM Pro

Using the new EPP 2.1 I get an error while trying to print Todos.

Printer asking "PC Load A4"
Printer is a old plain HP Laserjet 4P. With a single 8 1/2 x 11 cartridge.

The old print module (ie based) worked fine.
(I have no trouble printing from any other applications and have made no system changes)

I select the todos I wish to print. Change the field selection to "priority and subject"
I have tried a print preview and then print also with no luck.
The print preview looks fine.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Thanks for the quick response!

The "error" actually is displayed on my printer.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/e ... Letter.jpg
(not my printer but that is a HP LJ 4 and looks identical to what I am seeing)

Except my printer says "PC LOAD A4".
(I only have a single 8 1/2 x 11 paper tray on my printer. My printer settings are set to automatically select)

So the output from Essential PIM Pro 2.1 is looking for A4 paper size (e.g. such as 11 x 14)

So to double check. I restored EssentialPIMPro 2.02 to a separate folder and ran through the steps to print my todo list (selecting todos, selecting fields) it then rendered in IE and was able to print.
I then exited 2.02 and started up EssentialPIMPro 2.1. I ran through the exact same steps and verified the "PC LOAD A4" error.

I do not see this error printing from any other applications (IE, Firefox, Word, Excel, etc)

Thanks again.

I get the same error if printing on an HP laser Jet 4 plus. It appears that EssentialPIM is trying to print too much on one page.
If I print the to do list using the exact same options to a HP Laser Jet 8000 printer I instead get no heading at the top of each page.

2.1.1 which was released today should fix print layout problems. I would appreciate if you confirm whether it works for you.

Following the same steps as before I still get the "PC LOAD A4" error on my HP LJ 4 printer using the new version 2.11.

If there is any additional information you need from me to help fix this bug please let me know.

Thanks.

What is actually the size of the paper you are using?
Is it letter-size?

I have a single 8 1/2 x 11 paper tray.

The printer is a HP Laserjet 4 Plus
(The 4 plus vs. 4 should make no difference however I noted a 4 plus listed from vancedailey above)

It is connected via a Linux server running CUPS with "none" selected as the printer driver.
(CUPS should take any input and throw it directly to the output. With that being said I will move the printer and connect to the Windows box directly to test to remove that variable)

I am going to restore EpimPro 2.02 and use that as my default. I will continue to test new versions as they are released.

Thanks for all the effort in trying to get this working.

fwiw this bug still exists in version 2.13 (Load A4 error).

It is possible that I am the only person on the planet having this problem.

I have moved on to 2.13 and will simply export my Todos to HTML and print from there.

And as a side note. In "print" the dialog box lists "Fields Categories". In "HTML export" it is reversed as "Categories Fields" in the dialog box.
(just an fyi)

All in all a great product!
And I have used them all:
Sidekick
Reminders
Rolodex
Lotus Organizer
Palm Desktop
Outlook 2000

With over 600 todos you can see why I need to print.

Why print when you have such a great digital organiser?

Postby fchin » Sat Jul 26, 2008 7:01 am

I don't understand this obssession with printing stuff out. Why print when you have such a useful, convenient-to-refer organiser on your laptop or desktop?

Since using EssentialPIM for organising my work and as a despository for my writing, I have never felt the urge to print stuff. I carry a pocket-sized little diary and hand-write my appointments on it. When I don't have my laptop with me, I simply pull out my pocket diary, flip to the date and check the time / place of my appt.

Ever since HP successfully marketed its laser printers in the 1980s, it has been responsible for a huge increase in paper printing. I am sure almost all the non-legal computer printouts were useful only for a few days and then either got trashed or filed away never to be seen.

Why go on helping HP make billions of dollars on its overpriced, toxic toners and overpriced paper reams?

Re: Printing ToDos - PC Load A4

This printing error still seems to exist in 4.24. I believe the error is due to printing a 2+ page todo lists directly from the EssentialPIM. Some printers handle this by simply not printing several todos in between pages and some printers prompt for the user to load a new page size in most cases A4 to try to accommodate the request.

fwiw.

Thanks.

Hello,

please post a screenshot of the error. Not sure if that's the same error 3 years ago.
