Just to chime in with my 2cents...
I don't really have an opinion on which way this process should work, but IMHO & FWIW, from a designer's perspective I would think that (whichever way it goes) all views should behave the same way... just sayin'

In order to help with the diagnosis of this 'bug'... I exported my Contacts (all/only 61) to csv... all exported ok and I have 61 vcf items... I checked a bunch of these and they all look OK, with the correct information.. I then tried ErikJon's suggested test scenario... new db, 3 contacts, etc... ...

You;re sure that the database is not open already? I'd look in task manager & if the process exists... right click on the process... got to "Window" -> "Bring to Front" If that does not work, I'd go to Task Manager and and kill the EssentialPIM.exe process if it exists... the...

Maybe a reboot?
But I would just download the appropriate file from http://essentialpim.com/get-epim and run it for the install/update.

Yeah, I was wondering about that... looks like you used a different program for that database. Only thing I can find for .effx files is Efficient Man Organizer. Whatever program you used, I don't think you'll be able to just open the db with EPIM... you'll have to open the db with old program and do...

If I understand your question/situation correctly... and assuming that you've installed EPIM in such a manner that it and the ini file do not disappear with each reboot... Your backups should still be created (using the default interval). You can verify this by looking for backup files in the folder...
