This is by design. The letter bar works for a column that has active sorting.

Parable can be used as a client for the Business version. You download the regular version and then choose Portable installation on the second step during the installation process.

I don't think you'll experience any issues with AEPIM running on Failphone, except for synchronization with Google services of course as it seems there's no Google frameworks included in their OS.
