7-ZIP
7-ZIP: the best file compressor that also works as a very good file manager.
Total Commander is really good, but you might give the file commander of 7-ZIP a try.

Firefox
Oh, yes, because two browsers have already been mentioned:
The even more best one is Firefox.
www.mozilla.org
But of course you knew that already, didn't you?

EverNote...

Another OneNote replacement.
Long before Windows, I used a DOS outliner - PCOutline - to organize myself. It worked very well considering the limitations of DOS and the fact that I wasn't using it for what it was designed to be used for.
This is the age of information... more tools for organizing, managing, and accessing information make us more versitile, creative, productive, and smarter. Or so I keep telling myself.

Hi all,
The freeware that i use al the time and find really useful is
Stroke it - Mouse gesture freeware which once configured to your personal preferances can make using any application (even windows itself) far easier.
Download from http://www.tcbmi.com/strokeit/
Audacity for editing music files. With a bit of thought all sorts of interesting results can be achieved
Download from http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
For an alternative browser then there is always Maxthon, as well as the others mentioned previously. I find it easy to use, and feature rich, although it is based on IE which can be an issue for some
Download from http://www.maxthon.com/
For Ati (and now Nvidea) drivers with extra functionality and over-clocking then I use omega drivers (for my ATi card). I find them more stable and solve some compatibility issues inherent with the catalyst drivers (esp those of ATi vs VIA) that they based on.
Download from http://omegadrivers.net/
Other freeware I use has previously mentioned, but another big up for 7-zip which Is excellent.
Oh yeah and has anyone mentioen The GIMP. A useful free alternative to Paintshop pro or photoshop, but with a GUI which is a little unusual and can take a little getting used to.
Download from http://www.gimp.org/downloads/
I am sure there are more, and of course keep searching the old cover disks for more gems..

Has anyone tried openoffice.org - replaces most of microsoft office word/excel etc and can read/write in MS file formats? Its free and open source. Why should we let microsoft have our money? I also use Mozilla Firefox browser and Thunderbird email client - both free. Still use Windows though...
ps this software is brilliant

Hi there!
If anyone want to have legal and free software to replace Total Commander, s/he should try freeCommander, a very good app written by polish programmer Marek Jasinski:
http://www.freecommander.com/
or
http://www.freewarefiles.com/programs.p ... amID=11462
And at this point you should try to browse thru http://www.freewarefiles.com/ if you're looking for something good to feed your computer to.

Orbiter!
How about a space ship simulator that uses real physics! Orbiter is probably the most amazing freeware program I've ever come across (and I use lots of freeware/open source).
