Birthdays only set future dates

Post by grafton »

If I edit or create a contact with a birthday, it only sets the recurring event going forward. I expected that the date would start on the birthday, but that's not the case. So this is either:
  • a feature request,
  • or a bug,
  • or a failure of expectation on my part.

This is by design. Could you please elaborate as to why you'd wish to have all the previous events, as well?

Certainly. I use EPIM as a photo journal going back many decades. It's helpful to have birthdays and anniversaries show up to put context around the photos I'm scanning, many of which don't have dates or locations indicated. So far, my only workaround is to create a recurring event starting on the birthday or anniversary. I would prefer to use the built-in birthday for contact function, though.

I had the same problem. I wanted birthdays from birth on, for similiar reason. I set manual birthdays from birth on (only for realtives & family) and deleted the ones from the contacts. It had been nice, if there were an option to choose, when to start birthdays. But now, I have my database, no more need for this.... I think my family will not grow this fast

I just wanted to show, that there are more people, potentially using this feature.

Good, shall I also post as a feature request or this sufficient?
