Import passwords (CSV) with German Umlauts errorneous

Post by VolkerM »

I imported an csv file (; separated) with German Umlauts. The German Umlauts are not decoded or maybe recoded correctly.
E.g. "Böttcher" becomes "Böttcher", "Schlüssel" becomes "Schlüssel", "Postfächer" becomes "Postfächer", " – " becomes " – " etc. (The latter one isn't a German Umlaut but a graphical sign, a dash).
I am using EPIM Pro 9.2 on a Windows 10 Notebook.

Was the CSV file stored in the UTF-8 (Unicode) encoding? If you could edit the file, leaving just couple of unimportant entries without passwords and forward to us, we would have a look at it. Thanks!

Yes, it was. to ensure this, I imported it into Excel and exported it again as a csv file with codepage set to utf-8. Importing this led to the same error.
I shortened it and attached it. Thanks for your support!

I had to rename the extension from csv to txt because of the phpBB import filter !

I found out that Windows Editor is not working correct with coding of UTF-8

Try changing the coding with notepad++
(like in the attached screenshot)

I did the export again and shortened the csv file (w/ Notepad++).
From the beginning Notepad++ displayed it as utf-8 encoded. Umlauts are displayed correctly. See screenshot!
Then I imported this csv file to EPIM and found the Umlauts displayed errorneous. See second screenshot!

Converting into UTF-8 with BOM in Notepad++ should do the trick as EPIM will recognize the coding correctly after that.
