Problem with position of new notes in 9.7

Post by todd »

Usually when I insert a new note into my note tree, the new note will appear directly under the previous note. Since the new release it sometimes skips to a different position and has to be moved back into place. On the three attachments you can see the initial state of a segment of the note tree, followed by an insert operation, followed by the result. The new note should have shown up before the empty note, not after.

Is there any pattern that would allow us to reproduce the issue? Please also check if the issue is gone with the new 9.7.5 version.

I downloaded 9.7.5 and first impressions are that the problem is solved. I'll update this after I get to play with it for awhile.

Unfortunately the problem is still there. It is difficult to reproduce since sometimes it works and other times it doesn't. I will try to find some concrete examples but just wanted you to be aware of it meantime.

Just a minor comment, I notice the problem most often when I am inserting a note underneath a note that is followed by a blank note. The new note appears after the blank note instead of above it - tho not all the time. This always happens when I am using the hot key (INS in my case) to insert the sibling as opposed to using the menu option.

Okay, I think we were able to get to the issue, there should be a blank note involved. Will attempt to fix in the next update.

Please mention as to why you use notes with blank names? They seem to be the issue here and we need to know how to proceed with them.

I basically use the empty note to provide visual space between items I want to group on my lists. On my todo list I might move all the things I want to make sure get done today to the top of the list, but I may also want another group of items I want to do today if there is enough time, so I'll put a space after the "do today group", and after the "hope to do today" group, to visually break them out of the list for me.

Thanks for the explanation. We'll probably prohibit creating notes with empty names in the future as that's always prone to synchronization problems with other services. I suggest you to name such notes such as ------ or ______.

I have been using Epim this way ever since I bought it and I did the same thing with the previous info manager I switched from. It has never been a problem until now and I like using it this way. Seems to me that unless it is a huge programming effort, the ideal is to tailor the software to the way the users want to use it.

Hello - I just wanted to mention that this problem still exists in the new 9.8 release. Can you tell me if this is still under consideration for a fix? It worked perfectly before 9.7. I am a bit confused as to whether you will be addressing this.

I think we will leave this as it is now for the time being.
