promoting notes
Hi
If I have a note (note A) that is a child of another note (Note B) how can I move that note (Note A), or a leaf of that note, so that it is now a leaf of Note B (In essence promoting it up the tree) ?
I can't figure out how to do it
Cheers
Alan

Re: promoting notes
You can drag leaves between notes to move them (an animated GIF attached):
P.S. Holding down Ctrl while dragging a leaf will create a copy of that leaf instead of moving it.
Regards

Re: promoting notes
Yes drag and drop works well for moving but the leaves remains leaves/ They can never be promoted to the higher level so that they can takes leaves of thier own. I can not drag a "child" to make it a "parent" only a child of a different parent. Hopefully this is a bit clearer.

Re: promoting notes
I forgot - you cannot right click on a leaf and choose modify (as you an on a note) and change its parent to "none" which is how I can do it with a note that has been nested.

Re: promoting notes
You may have to drag the sub note "B" ABOVE note "A" until you see a horizontal line then let go of the mouse button

Re: promoting notes
Thanks Rick, but when I get the horizontal line (quite difficult) the icon changes from a document to a circle with a slash saying not permitted and dropping at this point has no effect.

The second you see the horizontal line ... let go of the mouse. Yes it can be difficult but with a bit of practise you can do ithenacynflin wrote: ↑Tue May 11, 2021 1:21 pm Thanks Rick, but when I get the horizontal line (quite difficult) the icon changes from a document to a circle with a slash saying not permitted and dropping at this point has no effect.

Re: promoting notes
In your graphic, there is nowhere for the leaf to go. You must drag it ABOVE Note B and release it
If you just want to rearrainge leaves, make sure you have set the sort to custom order then drag items to the far left to get the blue line, then up or down to place them where you wish

Re: promoting notes
I can drag a leaf to a different note.
I can drag a note to be a child note to another note, or to drag notes to be in custom order.
But I'm still not convinced that it's possible to drag a leaf to be a separate note.

Re: promoting notes
Yes, this is the essence of my query. I can't drag a leaf to become a separate note - this explains things much better than I was able.
