iCloud and two-factor-authentication

Post by vanBaarsel »

I searched the forum, but I couldn't find an answer. I tried two-factor-authentication again, but synchronization seems impossible with 2FA switched on. Immediately after starting the sync I get an "HTTP/1.1 401 Unauthorized" error. The only way to synchronize is to switch 2FA off. What can I do, or it this simply not supported?

Hello,

iCloud officially does not provide ways to provide authentication to 3rd-pary application in case 2-FA is turned on iCloud.

It does... I stumbled upon this page (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204397) at the Apple website, explaining how to use app-specific passwords with 2FA. I created a password, used that within EssentialPIM and voila: full iCloud synchronization with 2FA turned on!
