Feature suggestion - checkbox in note text

Post by Mel »

Pls consider a new feature -- checkbox in Notes text.

A clickable checkbox does not have to be a new database column, it might be a graphical representation of "[X]" (checked) and "[ ]" (unchecked) strings. Similar concept is available in AllMyNotes and I find it very useful.

I've learned that using todo's checkboxes is too complex for some tasks.

I second this request. The ability to check & uncheck notes would be very useful, especially if we can show/hide checked or unchecked notes.
This way, we can hide old notes that are not currently used. This will avoid cluttering the screen.

Where do you want the checkbox? In the text of a note in the note's module? Or, in the tree-view of the notes? Or, do you mean globally in every note text regardless of where the text is?

If it's in the tree-view of the notes, you can already change the icon to a check mark (though it's not a simple toggle, it does take 6 clicks via the "modify" right click option).

Suggestion: Would be better to have "Change icon" as a right click option in the tree.

As to hiding old notes, you can create a new note called "old notes" and drag notes to that, and use the + - to hide that subtree.

Alternatively, you can use the public/private switch to hide notes (as long as you don't need this to function in its intended way).

I know these aren't ideal solutions, but until they are included maybe they can be enough for now.

Oh, here's an interesting trick: In the body of your text (maybe at the end) you can add text codes that you can search on. So, for example, adding [show] at the bottom of each note you want to show will permit you to use the search tool to find "[show]" that will of course hide all the notes you don't have [show] in. Actually, if you have a lot of notes and carefully add codes, this could be a powerful tool.

You could add these tags: [followup], [complete], [taxes] ... etc.

Maybe a second tree item like here suggested?

In the note text (e.g. right-click - > Insert -> Checkbox).
If I need clickable tree items, I use ToDos but for simple ad hoc ideas or rapid wife's requests I use separate "scratch" notes where a checkbox would be very useful.
As mentioned before, such idea exists in AllMyNotes. A checkbox behaves like a bullet - Enter key copies it to the next line.

I saw how they implement that, and it's pretty cool. I'll +1 that.

+1 for selectable checkboxes in NOTES

Highlighting a list, or a number of sentences in a note, and select [Checkbox] would insert a checkbox that preceded each sentence.
E.g Just like inserting bullets points.

Yes, checkboxes in Notes would be very useful.

I use something similar to your system in the note content for searchability as a workaround to having tags.

Checkboxes is good feature idea. As others have stated, I am also familiar with it's use elsewhere.

This is very desirable feature..

Or even better: (Right Click - Insert - HTML Code)
This is more generic but much more flexible.. So adding following code wolud create checkbox
<input type="checkbox" name="vehicle" value="Bike">I have a bike </br>
<input type="checkbox" name="vehicle" value="Car">I have a car

Can we expect such feature in near future?
