A more discreet marking of anchors

Post by Tester »

I know that it is primarily a matter of taste but to my mind anchors are marked in EPIM in a somewhat obtrusive way:

A1.jpg

--> There is the tiny circle (in the picture on the left of the number "3"). This is of course o.k. But there is also this endless dotted horizontal line extending over the whole width of the editor window. This is disturbing, especially when you simply want to read in your note (without handling your anchors) and when you have more anchors within a note.

Here for example the way in which anchors are marked in "MyInfo":

A2.jpg

--> There is only a tiny cirlce too and a tiny horizontal line left of it.

To my mind this is completely sufficient. But even if you think that the anchors should be recognizable in a more distinct way: Perhaps you could find a solution without this dotted line? (E.g. something like the anchor icon in the toolbar or a small arrow, positioned somewhere near the beginning of the line?)

I really like how it works now with the whole row of dots.

The working is not the problem, it's simply the look.

Concerning the working, as far as I have tested it, you have anyway to (right) click exactly on the tiny circle to have the options of the context menu (like "Copy Hyperlink" or "Copy Anchor as Link"). Clicking or right clicking on the line has no effect. So the line plays only a visual role but has no functionality for handling the anchor.

Let me rephrase my comment to: "I like how it looks" then.
I very much like the dotted line visual aspect.

I do share Tester his (or her) vision. However MyInfo approach maybe slightly too minimalistic. Especially if you consider the current behaviour. However the dotted line is esthetically not the nicest thing to look at.

Note: may I assume Tester here being the same Tester at MyInfo forum?

As I'm blocked to do a new post: So the actual request is to be able to configure the dotted line :P

Yes, the same Tester (and male).

I also like the visuals of the dotted line, and personally if it changed I'd like it to become more visible, bigger dots, a brighter color, and colored line numbers on the left side.

Interesting, so far it seems common conclusion would be to make the line adjustable/configurable to anyone's liking.

If this could be realized, I think it would be perfect for all of us. :D

I want to cast my vote:

I want to mark a word with an "Anchor" anywhere in a text, which I can link to from another place.
But that will result in an absolute mess of "Anchor" lines.
Also:
If I only select some words in a row, the "Anchor"-line appears above the text.
If I select the entire row, the line appears below the text.

So I vote for some customization (remove the line).
An icing on the cake would be to be able to return from the "Anchor" text, back to the linking place.

Thanks
