Animated gif in notes (or external embedding media files)

Post by r0n »

Is it possible for a future version of epim to actually show the gif animation in a note.
(OR by double clicking the gif open it in the user's associated image viewer?)

This can be very useful to insert animated demonstrations/howto's in the notes.

Maybe even:
  • Maybe not directly start the animation until user click's on it. And maybe stop animating when gif is out of view.
  • To keep the database from growing to much, support external embedding/linking of content from the user's pc.
  • This feature would create a problem for the Android/IOS versions, so maybe the best thing to do is replace the the inserted/embedded/linked content with placeholders in the mobile versions. This would result in limiting the Android/IOS versions BUT the pc version would retain this extra functionality.
  • EDIT: It also could be VERY useful if windows paths, examle: c:\test\test.txt in notes would be automatically transformed in underlined blue clickable links! That way you have a sort of "embedding of external content"! (As an extra feature, if the user runs a portable version and is linking from within the portable version's location then for example paths like {epim}\testfolder\test.txt would be resolved to the path of the portable version of epim.
For now, could the animating of gifs be supported?
(OR by double clicking the gif open it in the user's associated image viewer?)

Thanks for the suggestions. You can already link to external files by using the Insert Hyperlink feature. As for the animated GIFs - this feature is in the plans.
