I work at 50% screen brightness most of the time, and my screen isn't super bright to begin with, and because of that the new line numbers are almost invisible.
On the topic of line numbers there may be a bit too much padding on the left side.
I tested it to 100,000,000 lines and EPIM became largely dysfunctionally unstable above 1,000,000, so I don't think you have to worry about having enough padding to handle above that.
Looking at the current size of the numbers at hundred million I think you could pre-pad for 999 (maybe even just 99) and just shrink the font down and it will still be perfectly readable up to 999,999 which is more than seems suitable for EPIM to handle.

+1 on both, On one of my systems I use an old TFT monitor with low contrast and even at full brightness it's hard to see the numbers, and padding is a bit intense.
