[solved] Problem Ports - not only 3050..

Post by Texter »

Hi
I'm just trying epim Network*.

When I'm starting my Laptop with the Admin Login (SYSDBA) my firewall asks me if i would like to use traffic on Port 3050.
I click "yes"
Then i'm immidetly asked if I would like to have traffic on ONE other Port.
If i click "no" epim freezes.
If i click "yes" epim works fine after this click.
Here is the (incompleted) list of Ports EPIM aksed me during the restarts: 59031 / 59174 / 59454 / 59461 / 60062 (and so on)

Same thing on the client site.
Is there a special Port Range, or is there a possibility to use EPIM only on Port 3050 / 3051 ?

*at this time i only have the 30 days free version of epim network - but I'm a Lifetime Pro User
Epim-User since 12/2007 - changed to pro later - never change a running system - now Epim Lifetime.
Running latest* Epim Pro Portable on a Lenovo T14p with Win 10 64bit.

[solved]

I think i solved this isue. After deactivating the Win10 firewall it works !
I didn't know, that my win10 firewall is still active, because I'm using comodo.

After deactivating the win 10 firewall.. no problems, but I rather more going to define a rule for epim / firebird server.

me again,
after solving the problem i found another problem:
while epim uses port 3050 and 3051 the Firebird-Server uses a variaty of ports, they change every time i open epim.

When I`m at my workplace it is no problem, I',m able to connect immediately.
But when I`m at home it isn't working fast. I'm able to connect throu normal internet by entering the desired IP / Username / Passwort, but it works very very slowy. It takes round about 3 Minutes for a nearly empty database to open.
I guess the diffrence is: if i'm connected in my companys network my laptop is trusted and all ports are open in the company. But when I'm at home the ports are limited to 3050 and 3051.
Is there any solution to speed it up without setting the firewall of my company to "wide opend" ?

Just add an exception in Windows Firewall.
Add Inbound Rule and check "Program".
Create rules for EPIM and Firebird

C:\Program Files (x86)\EssentialPIM Pro\EssentialPIM.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Firebird\Firebird_2_1\bin\fbserver.exe

Hi arealpl
thanks for your suggestion.
I already defined such rules. Also turning off the firewall was no cure for this behaviour.
The problem is, that my admin blocks much traffic with his own firewall. He isn't happy to allow a huge amount of open ports. For him it's easier to open just a few needed ports.
