Making bulk cutting and pasting of tasks faster?

Post by logies »

Once a week I cut finished tasks from "list 1" (662 this time) and paste them to another list ("archive") because EPIM remains more responsive with fewer tasks in list1 (about 360 recurrent ones and some more). This process takes much too long and too many ressources, I think: It took about 3 min for cutting and my I/O-monitor for Windows (Process Hacker 2) measured about 61 MB/s for the Firebird SQL server over this time. Which means, that FB had to shuffle around 61*3*60=10,72 GB. Pasting was much faster, about 15s (the archive list looks empty before pasting, because I switch off showing finished tasks before changing to list "archive". Can this be optimized? Thanks!

Hello,
thank you for the suggestion.
I would not comment on amount of data trasferred, at it needs much more data in order to be discussed.
However, if moving 662 items within 3 minutes may be an OK outcome. It also depends on how big those items are and on recurring pattern.
If you want a definite answer, we would need a database with those 662 items to be moved so that we could test.

At the moment I`m using EPIM 8.14 and it has become much faster and more stable, I believe.

Just out of curiosity, have you tried doing a multi-task select, click-drag to your other list?

I have used cut/paste to move Notes between different branches, and been having some long move times in Notes. It seems to be much faster if I can select a group and click-drag them to a new location.

When I try that from the Tasks window, it seems to work very fast for me.

I just have selected 4 tasks and tried to click-drag them to another list, 2 times. But EPIM 8.15 Business crashed, 2 times. Without restarting EPIM I then cut 396 tasks on one list and pasted them to the other which worked without a problem.
