Synchronization: No Conflict Resolution Anymore(?)

Post by Nurgotora »

EssentialPIM 7.24, Windows 7
EssentialPIM for Android 4.6.1, Android 6

Changing an (Calender, Notes, Password) entry both on desktop and phone does not show a conflict resolution dialog when synchronizing, but just overwrites the 'older' entry with the 'newer' one.

This just 'replaced' me a very important and long note on the phone.

Modules affected (no conflict resolution dialog):
- Calendar (e.g. change Text)
- Notes (e.g. change Text)
- Passwords (e.g. change Username)

Modules not affected (show the conflict resolution dialog):
- Contacts

Nurgotora

PS: It does not even help to use undo (Ctrl-Z) after inadvertedly having edited an entry: Even so all changes are undone, this stays the 'newer' entry and will overwrite the other.

There was never conflict resolution for for AEPIM-WinEPIM synchronization. Although, I think we should add it as it might be prone to introducing some loss of info, like in your case. Very sorry about that. Will try to add this feature ASAP.

Thanks for the quick response.

Uups...?
But, as I mentioned, Contacts has conflict resolution... That's why I expected / relied on it in the other modules, too.

But if Notes, Passwords and Calendar never had any, I start wondering, what else I lost in the past years...

That would be really nice.

There's no conflict resolution in contacts, as well. You can check that if you don't believe me :)

Will try to introduce the feature in WinEPIM 7.5 Beta2 version, which should be released in the beginning of next week already. Thanks!

In terms of "There was never conflict resolution for for AEPIM-WinEPIM synchronization.", I have to agree with Nurgotora- I've had the conflict resolution screen appear a few times over the years...and I don't even sync contacts! Mostly the conflicts were calendar-based.

That said, I haven't seen such a screen in a while. Was it removed at some point?

Sorry, not interested in wine - would never know what to do with it :)) Interesting find, BTW as I'm not able to reproduce the conflict resolution case for contacts. Will check in the program's code. In any case, will try to implement the feature ASAP. Thanks!

EssentialPIM 7.24, Windows 7
EssentialPIM for Android 4.6.1, Android 6

- 2-way sync
- Sync deletions
- On Android: "Sync Contacts with Telephone"
- 'Manual' sync (using known IP, not "scanning for")

Change First name of a contact on Desktop: just add "ww" to it
Change First name of same contact on Android: just add "aa-2"

Sync.

I had this conflict resultion dialogs in Contacts since my first Epim version 4.x (on windows), so somehow I always assumed that they were used for the other modules, too. And come to it, I seem vaguely to remember to have seen it in other modules, but am not really sure. Wonder what looking at the code my reveal.

===
Finally: I really like the responsiveness of you gentlemen and ladies at Astonsoft, it makes the aformentioned loss a lot easier to bear.
