Automatic Sync in Spite of Being Disabled

Post by Nurgotora »

Update for W-Epim 7.62, A-Epim 5.4
Still auto-syncing in spite of being disabled, but no errors anymore

==== Original Posting ====
Hi,

I have disabled automatic synchronisation on my Phone

The automatic synchronisation takes place anyway.

Sometimes that automatic synchronisation (which I do not want) fails with the error shown in image:
AutoSync.jpg
I have to "Stop Task" then.

EssentialPIM 7.61 on Windows 7 Pro 64bit
EssentialPIM 5.3.5 on Android 7

Cheers,
Nurgotora

How do you know that auto sync still takes place after you disabled it?

Firstly and naturally by entries made on the phone suddenly showing up on the PC (and vice versa) and secondly by the error message mentioned above (which suddenly pops up without me having initiated a sync).

Thanks, we are unable to reproduce the problem. Please double check if the auto-sync feature is disabled in the AEPIM options. If yes, please mention your phone make and model, will try to check how it works on our side with the specific device.

I *really* made sure it is disabled ...

I enabled the auto-sync feature for now and changed the interval (also disconnected/reconnected to wlan). I'll wait for another autosync and then disable it again.

We're released the new 5.4 Beta1 version today with couple of fixes that might possibly affect the auto-sync feature. Would you be interested in trying it out?

Yes. With pleasure.

My test did not work:
- auto-sync feature enabled: Auto syncs
- auto-sync feature disabled: Auto syncs, still
Generating the error, too.

Good, you can either get the new beta version from the Google Play store here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... sentialpim (note, you need to be a registered Beta tester. Here's how to join: navigate to https://play.google.com/apps/testing/co ... sentialpim and follow the instructions to opt-in. Once you have opted-in you will be able to receive a Beta version through Google Play) or downloading the APK file directly from our web site:
http://www.essentialpim.com/download/be ... lPIM54.apk.

Let me know how the new version works for you (please restart EPIM after enabling/disabling the auto-sync option, just in case). Thanks!

I installed the beta and

1. left the autosync off. I made a manual sync to check if it does sync. Then waited. After a while A-Epim did try to sync and generated the error shown in first post. After "Stop All" or Stop Task" no further (manual) sync was possible until I restarted W(in)-E(ssential)Pim

2. I turned autosync on in A-EPim. restarted W-EPim.

3. After a while A-Epim did try to sync and generated the error shown in first post. After "Stop All" or Stop Task" no further (manual) sync was possible until I restarted W(in)-E(ssential)Pim. Did a manual Sync.

4. I turned autosync off in A-EPim. restarted W-EPim.

No syncs for a long time

5. Manual sync (successfull)

No syncs for a long time

Looks good ... At least for non-automatic syncing :-)

Hm.. interesting, thanks for the info. Will check the option once more and include some additional changes if needed in the Beta2 version.

Hi,
I have no problem with autosync via wifi, however I have a feature request. Would be possible to add a confirmation message on Windows Epim after an autosync? Maybe in the bottom status bar a message like: "Last autosync (or manual sync) successfully done at time X on day Y". At present I wonder sometimes if and when last autosync or manual sync was made or if current autosync has already finished or still in progress or even if is started. Autosync is a little too silent.
And is there any register in Windows Epim where I can check manual sync and autosync history?

Thanks for the suggestion, will think about it. Meanwhile, you can check out the latest successful synchronization time stamp at the bottom of the PC Sync window in Android EPIM.
In WinEPIM you can check that out by browsing the directory with log files (Tools->Options->Synchronization, Log files: Browse).

Thanks for your consideration. Maybe also a progress bar or an animated icon during an autosync or manual sync would be nice (like in the old Palm Desktop).

I found the log file. Is it normal that it shows info only from last launch of windows epim?

Noted, thank you.

EssentialPIM keeps only last 3 log files and deletes the older ones in order to save space.

Unfortunately, Epim is doing it again ...

I have done/changed nothing since last report (Except leaving and entering the wlan several times) and suddenly the error shown in post #1 popped up three times within the last 50 minutes:

13:20 First Time (as usual I had to restart W-Epim)

After the first time I enabled logging.
