I am using win 10 and installed the free and pro demo and even though my phone says the sync was successful it will not sync with my desktop.
Both are on the same network . I have the latest of all the software and apps installed and using Chrome for my default browser.

Hard to say what's wrong without seeing the log files first. Please forward them to me via PM (they can be found here: Tools->Options->Synchronization, Browse... and the filenames should start with "AndroidSync") Thanks!
