What happened to the zip file for the portable version?

Bring it bacK! I use the portable version, and they're always in zip format, or they're like on Portable Files website, an exe that downloads the necessary files over the internet. A single installer makes sense for regular version, NOT the portable version. Who is the idiot who came up with that? The portable version is NOT portable anymore!!!

It actually is. Once you run the executable and choose the Portable version for installation, it will be extracted into the folder of your choice same way as if you'd do this manually yourself.
Plus, the new system allows automatic updates for the Portable version. No need to do that manually anymore.

The problem with this new installer is that the portable version is no longer fully portable.
Actually, the folder Dict is no more in the application folder and is stored in "User\AppData\Roaming\EssentialPIM Portable\Dict".
For fully portability you have to fix that problem.

I don't know if anyone else has this issue, but some of us don't have full admin perms on our machines. Permissions get locked down as part of standard security measures. Auto-updates are also frowned upon and are supposed to be strictly controlled.
I don't know wx this is going to halt me.
I did the equivalent of unpacking and extracting the .exe
I'm testing the operation as if it's portable, now.
I will see if there is a problem running the installer in the next week or so.

Yes, that the correct option that you mention. You should be able to experience auto-update of the Portable Pro version to the 8.61 one in the coming days as update is rolling out in stages now.

I had the same problem than Nothingness with the 8.6 updating... No zip file.
I Just waited for the next update and It is OK now, I work with epim 8.6.1

I had the same problem than Nothingness with the 8.6 updating... No zip file.

For those who cannot use the auto-update, you may be able to update manually by extracting the files yourself:

1. Going to the Get EPIM web page: https://www.essentialpim.com/get-epim
2. Downloading the .exe
3. Opening it as an archive, with WinZip, 7Zip, etc.

To open the downloaded EXE as an archive:

For 7Zip, start the 7Zip FileManager,
Navigate to the directory containing the .exe
Select the .exe, right click, and from the pop-up menu, Open Inside
(instead optionally, you can select 7-zip / Open Archive).

This will show two folders:
$TEMP
$PLUGINSDIR

Double-click / navigate into the $TEMP directory.
There will be two .exe's:
EssentialPIMPronn.exe
EssentialPIMProPortnn.exe

Right click on whichever is desired, and select Open Inside.

You will see the contents of the executable, containing 20 r so objects, including executables, dlls, subfolders, etc.
You may copy/extract from these into your own file system directories.

This is recommended only if you are comfortable with manipulating your own files.
