EPIM integration with Antidote, the write cure
Hi
I was reading https://www.essentialpim.com/blog-and-n ... r-16-years
And, it gives me an idea of development for the tool
Why not try to integrate Antidote in EPIM
This is relatively easy inside a text editor using the available API (see links below)
This will give you additional marketing presence just next to Microsoft Office in the Antidote compatibility list
And Antidote is an award-winning tool for writing specialists and day-to-day users too in English and French
I have given you, in the links below, the recent integration with Ulysses as an example of the usefulness of this software
People, like me , using Antidote integrated in Webmails or Outlook will never quit these programs for EPIM losing the Antidote integration...

Re: EPIM integration with Antidote, the write cure
Hello,
thank you for the suggestion.
I wonder how many user Antidote has, due to their pretty high price.

Re: EPIM integration with Antidote, the write cure
Less people than who use pro writing aid.
https://prowritingaid.com
They usually sit at the top of most lists, so one would think that if you were going to spend the time offering one of the paid options it would be the most used option.
Grammar for some reason is a high priced market for some reason. Personally when I need it I use a web app with afterthedeadline since it's totally free and pretty good. If there was someway to add afterthedeadline to EPIM than that would be the best option I'd think.

Re: EPIM integration with Antidote, the write cure
Hi Max, TumbleDoor,
Thank you for your remarks that I will try to answer
ProWritingAid does not have the most of users, because I think this is Grammarly with 10M+, but it has been impossible to me to find the rough number
There are more than 1 million of Druide Antidote's users worldwide in 2016, mostly Europe-Canada
https://www.druide.com/en/news/antidote ... lion-users
And English countries since 2016 with the addition of English language = 1,5 up to 2 millions in 2020, but one license allows to install on 3 computers for 3 persons
First of all, I'm French : sorry for the poor English and that means I also need a grammar checker ; but, it's not the only reason I prefer Antidote overall
ProWritingAid and Antidote are very similar for features and integrations
The ProWritingAid seems to have a very good language analysis with several modules to the same level as Antidote ; I can't say more
I will say that Antidote has more "open" features like mobile iOS/Android, and Windows/Mac/Linux, and all Microsoft Office programs Excel, PowerPoint, ... not only Word-Outlook, and also Office Mac contrary to ProWritingAid that does not succeed to, and also Linux tools, and without an Internet connexion (thus no privacy issues sending all your writing to the Internet in the Cloud to a Big Data system that is important at least for Europeans), and many more programs yet than ProWritingAid on Mac-Linux and even Windows (see the long list) !
And I use Antidote English and French modules, of course !

There are too many missing things in After the Deadline, and no integrations at all...
I did not say that we'll have to integrate Antidote versus others, because it's always better to add integration for several tools to let the user choose
The strength of EPIM versus heavy contenders like Microsoft Office is the lightness without sacrificing the features, the price, the portability, the no-Internet connexion, and also the openness and connectivity with many environments that make much difference with Microsoft/Apple and other GAFA ! It would always be a plus for EPIM to offer more connectivity.
I know that Antidote is one of the best contenders that also offers openness and connectivity for all, and that it can integrate easily also in desktop tools even without an Internet connexion and inside mobiles iOS/Android
I will be very happy that the Antidote integration be done, but also ProWritingAid, of course, for users who want to ; or After the Deadline...
I will just personally continue to use Antidote on my side, at least waiting the necessary French and integrations missing in other solutions...
Regards

Re: EPIM integration with Antidote, the write cure
I'm not sure what you mean by "no integrations at all" for Afterthedeadline.
You could just as easily integrate Afterthedeadline with a wrapper as you could Antidote with their APIs.
You can also setup the server to run locally quite easily. Which means it could be made to not send data over the internet or require any blackbox phoning home which Antidote requires making it the better privacy solution.

Re: EPIM integration with Antidote, the write cure
It was too shortly explained and I was talking about desktop tools integration. After the Deadline integrates to Web only : https://www.afterthedeadline.com/questions.slp. They explicitly say no to MS Word for example... Regards.

Re: EPIM integration with Antidote, the write cure
I do not address either people who want to make their own servers for After the Deadline, or electronic mail server, or else : available without technical knowledge. Else, you can make your own EPIM on a Home Cloud Server. Just not the subject of this topic. Rgds.

Re: EPIM integration with Antidote, the write cure
You can use it for desktop programs too, just look at how it's used for openoffice:
http://www.afterthedeadline.com/downloa ... OpenOffice
The only reasons there's no word support is that no one has bothered to make it.
As for running the local server being complicated. You may not realize this, but EPIM is built around running a local Firebird server. Which means by installing EPIM and using it you have setup and are using a server on your local system just as, if not more complex than a local AtD server.

Re: EPIM integration with Antidote, the write cure
OK, but that does not seem easy to understand for most non-technical users and it's a beta version
And we're talking only about Open Office : nothing else available as is ?
It was good when I was a student and I don't want now to engage in integration that is not fully maintained without effort and to waste time in technical issues
Let's say you have integration with Open Office for advanced users
A little short versus : https://www.antidote.info/en/antidote-1 ... ty/windows ...

Hi
I did not have time to finish my little review last time
What I have found is that :
- Grammarly is the biggest in terms of employees and licenses for English users : 10M copies
- ProWritingAid is the smallest of the 3 in terms of employees and licenses : 1M (but they also sell the API)
- Antidote is not yet well known in the US even if they have three times the employees of ProWritingAid, because they began with French language outside of the US and are not yet really known for English part : 2M copies
Antidote is similar in Canada-France-Belgique to Grammarly in the US : it is far away the leader
In terms of weight, Grammarly should be the first to be considered, but it is not really open and very weak in integration for what I see : https://support.grammarly.com/hc/en-us/ ... Skype-etc-
As TumbleDoor said, ProWritingAid is on the US/UK top list and deserve to be added with easy integration, for what I can read
After the Deadline is free, OK, but the grammar results are not as good as paid versions, and the integration is not actively developed and not followed as paid version, with apparently just a beta version for OpenOffice and nothing for LibreOffice : not sexy
What I can say for EPIM, in my opinion, is that both ProWritingAid and Antidote seems to really offer easy and extended APIs, thus with a lesser development cost and maintenance, I imagine :
- ProWritingAid is a real challenger of Grammarly in the US with a good grammar checker for English only (better perhaps ?)
- Antidote is at present the best grammar checker in the top list for French language users and an opportunity to get enhanced audience outside the US in Canada-France-... The recent English module has been developed with the same technology and already gives excellent results at the level of other best English grammar checkers !
Hope to find Antidote integrated in EPIM in a short future
Regards

Re: EPIM integration with Antidote, the write cure
IMO I think this would best be accomplished not by having the EPIM core developers integrating any of these, but by having them build a plug-in system for notes that would allow community members to make integrations ourselves.
The two main reasons for this opinion:
#1
None of these offer support for the full range of languages that EPIM supports, and thus direct 1st party integration of any of them is adding exclusive features benefiting only people who use a limited set of specific languages.
#2
Piling on as many 1st party integrations as possible, is too problematic. It would likely do more to damage the stability of EPIM than benefit it. There are good reasons why most integrations like these are done through plug-ins in other programs.
Every 1st party integration of this nature is a highly limited use case feature that the developers then have to manage and take care of themselves no matter how few people use them. Whereas community made plug-ins are features that are cared for by the community and as long as there is a proper demand for them they are maintained.
I would also like to point out that a plug-in system for notes would give the community power to address many other low priority, but important feature requests on the board.
Line numbers, line sorting, code-highlighting, and a template system for example.

Re: EPIM integration with Antidote, the write cure
Hello
Whether we go through a plug-in system or not, I agree that there should be a single entry point internally for managing language correctors
I believe that the EPIM team will choose the best solution for their product if they decide to bring this kind of functionality to their tool
What community are you talking about that integrates features into EPIM plug-ins !?
From what I know so far, EPIM is fully and only developed by Astonsoft, isn't it ?

We here are the community.
Right now it is mostly wholly by Astonsoft because the only vectors they give us to contribute is testing, and translations. Which is also one of the reasons are community stays smaller than it would be if we had more places to focus energy and socialize productively with each other.
Having talked to a number of members here privately and knowing many personally there are quite a few who would give serious thought and attention to building plug-ins given the opportunity.

Re: EPIM integration with Antidote, the write cure
Hi MetalDrop
OK fine, I understand better that way, because I didn't find a code development community existing during my searches in that forum
This is an ongoing request to Astonsoft from fan developers here to ask an entry gate to EPIM engines
Not only for correctors’ plug-ins, I assume
Whether Astonsoft decides or not to open the EPIM engines to plug-ins, I hope that the Antidote corrector being integrated into EPIM
And with or without a plug-in realization at first, I guess that the development will be automatically oriented towards a unique internal EPIM API entry point to manage the future correctors' API integrated ; same internal API that could be given through a plug-in system at the same time or in a second step
The challenge is always there and will never be incompatible with an implementation of plug-ins before or after
I'm stuck to the browser, Gmail, Google Docs, Outlook or Thunderbird for working with texts without such a feature
IMO, it's a more urgent feature as a whole for a PIM manager to have possibilities for language management of the contents
