Pasting tasks betweem lists make it a child

Post by rgrun1 »

Copying one or more tasks from one list to another cuases them to be pasted as a child of something.
To replicate have at least 2 task list with items on them
Choose one or more items from list A, copy them and then paste them into list "B"
They will be a child of a random item
you now have to open the pasted item and remove it as a dependency

The tasks are pasted as child ones to the task that was selected on that particular list when you switched to it.

Is there any quick way to bypass that behaviorother than opening the task and changing the parent to 'none"?

Thanks that works ... but it makes a copy . I usually cut and paste.
This is not a big deal. I was just asking if there was a better way than what I was doing
Thanks again for the fast reply

As said above, you can use CTRL+dragging to copy items.

But you can also use dragging without a modifier to move items, i.e. after the usual copy-paste or cut-paste (Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V; Ctrl+X, Ctrl+V) while the pasted items are still selected you can just drag them all at once to be 'between' root items and not a child of something.

And by the way, if you still have some items to sort out, no need to 'open the pasted item and remove it as a dependency'. You can select them and then drag, even if they are children of different parent items.
You can select several items by clicking on the first of them, holding down SHIFT and clicking on the last. Or by clicking with CTRL to select items which are not one after another. Selecting by holding down the left mouse button and dragging the cursor to 'draw a rectangle' also works.

Thanks @Keldi. There is enough here so I can do what I need. I was just looking for an easy way to do something. I have also got some ideas for handling an unrelated issue that I was over thinking
Thanks to all!

I find that context (right-click) menus often reduce confusion. In EPIM, the Paste context menu pastes as a child as described above.

How about replacing or expanding the Paste command with Paste as New Task (root), Paste as Child, and Paste as Sibling? (This would work the same regardless of whether one or multiple items were copied or cut).

thanks.

Expanding the paste menu would increase time needed to get to the core Paste function. Although, will think about your proposal and possible ways to implement it, thanks!
