Sync only specific notes
I asked this already in 2020 and at that time the answer was "maybe in the future"
Is it possible to sync only specific Notes between PC and Android vs. the complete Notes?
I have several thousand notes on the PC - huge Size - and most of them I do not want/need on the Android version.
There are only a very few specific notes that are needed and actively edited on the Android version.
If there is still not an "official" feature to make this possible, can someone think of a hack/workaround to accomplish this?
Thanks : )

Re: Sync only specific notes
This has been possible for as long as I can remember. Simply mark the notes you don't want to synchronize as private in WinEPIM and ensure the "Include private items in synchronization" option is disabled under Tools -> Options -> Security.

Re: Sync only specific notes
But private/public does not mean sync/not sync....
I can want to have notes private on PC but not want to sync them! Sync/public is a bad mark for sync/not to sync!

I just checked for the old post that I've made. https://www.essentialpim.com/forum/view ... 31#p118131
But at that time I did not ask "per note" but "per tree" - it was quite complicated what I had in mind - maybe that caused some confusion ; )
I guess that is not important anymore.
As a "workaround" the suggested solution is ok - better than nothing ; )
So, I just tried it... The Sync/not Sync works indeed the way you said.
BUT I ran into a problem. I don't know how to bulk set all my notes back to public.
My notes are organized in Folders (where empty notes with a folder Icon act as folders)
After Selecting all the top level Items I switched them to private and as I was hoping, all child items were set to private too.
But I cannot switch them back this way - setting a note to public, does not set it's children to public. Or am I missing something?
EDIT: as a workaround, this is ok I guess. A "real" solution would be great and much appreciated.

Re: Sync only specific notes
You can change statuses by making multiple selections and then using the context menu. This should simplify the process.

Re: Sync only specific notes
It does simplify it, but in my case it is still not practical. The Process would take at least 20-30 Minutes because of the hierarchical structure and the amount of "folders/subfolders"admin wrote: Wed Mar 12, 2025 9:58 am You can change statuses by making multiple selections and then using the context menu. This also renders the use as a workaround useless, which brings me back to square 1.
Do you think this is something that can be addressed in some way in the foreseeable future?

Re: Sync only specific notes
We're not entirely sure what specifically needs to be addressed here. In any case, you'd need a way to mark specific notes so they're excluded from synchronization, which is essentially the same as marking them as private. Isn't that correct?Do you think this is something that can be addressed in some way in the foreseeable future?

No, it's not the same ; ) similar.... but not the same ; )admin wrote: Wed Mar 12, 2025 3:43 pm ....you'd need a way to mark specific notes so they're excluded from synchronization, which is essentially the same as marking them as private. Isn't that correct?
Someone else mentioned it already a few posts above. https://www.essentialpim.com/forum/view ... 44#p137744
It's a workaround that partially breaks another feature.
And it's not practical if used on database where notes are arranged in a hierarchy.
A proper solution that I can think of would be a new option that is SIMILAR to the "include private items in synchronisation".
An "exclude from sync" option when right clicking on a Note and it should also have a "apply to Child items" toggle.
This way a whole tree could be filtered ON/OFF in a matter of seconds
The difference is that this does not potentially interfere with "real" private notes and that it easily can be activated/deactivated/changed in large databases. I hope I made sense : ) and did not forget anything.... since it's quite late already ; )

Ok, thanks for your suggestion. We will consider it for future versions of EPIM.

Re: Sync only specific notes
I just stumbled upon a "feature" that I am not familiar with. In the "Add List" Dialog, there is a dropdown called "Account" and it shows my Phone and my Tablet, which are set up for synchronizing.
As I checked the online help for it I found something under "synchronization accounts" but to be honest, I don't fully understand what it is for.
I do not use Epim as Email client. But I was wondering if I can somehow determine with this if a certain list in my notes will be synced or not.
I guess right now it's not possible. But possibly it is something that could be added without too much effort in an upcoming version.... similar to the "include private items in export/synchronisation" toggle. Just by adding an "include in export/synchronisation" toggle for each notes list that is part of a specific account.

I'm not entirely sure how this suggestion differs from your previous one. Could you please clarify or elaborate further?

Re: Sync only specific notes
The previous suggestion was about the possibility of specifying ANY list to be in-/excluded from sync.
This one is about in-/excluding based on which ACCOUNT a list belongs to.
As I stated before I do not fully understand the functions which are described in the Epim Help article called "Synchronization Accounts".
I was hoping that instead of creating a new list that is holding exclusively items that are meant to be synced I could possibly add a list to a specific account and based of the account settings the list would be synced or not synced.
Since you did not already answered YES to my previous post I guess I am too far off and I apologize for asking questions and not informing myself better beforehand.
Have a great day - and thank you again!

Re: Sync only specific notes
Items from different accounts will not synchronize with each other. Each account's data will only sync with its original service (unless configured to synchronize with a local account). Hope this helps clarify things. Thanks!
