EPIM cloud test not working

Post by kdgdr »

Hi,
I just created an account for EPIM cloud to test it out and see if it is an option for me as an alternative to syncing over wifi.

Here 's what I did:
  • Created an empty database in WEPIM and set up a sync to EPIM cloud with credentials of the freshly created EPIM cloud account.
  • Created an appointment in WEPIM.
  • In AEPIM I deleted all data. When AEPIM was empty I signed in to the freshly created EPIM cloud account.
  • Created 1 appointment in AEPIM and synced to EPIM cloud. Took rather long, at least a full minute.
  • In WEPIM I synced to EPIM cloud and the appointment appeared. Again, the sync took rather long, again at least a full minute.
  • In WEPIM I added 1 task, 1 note, 1 contact and 1 password. Since the 2 previous syncs were the first in their kind (first WEPIM syn, first AEPIM sync) I expected syncs to go faster from now on. But no, syncing WEPIM to EPIM cloud took minutes this time.
  • After that I synced in AEPIM and again it took minutes here.
Final result is that after syncing in AEPIM for 10 mins (and still going) all I see in AEPIM so far is:
  • the original appointment that was created in AEPIM, but not yet the new appointment that was created in WEPIM
  • a task tab called EPIM Cloud, but no task on it yet
  • a new note tree but no note in it yet
  • the contact (is about the only item that has arrived in AEPIM and looks fine)
  • the password appears in AEPIM, but its username has turned into <a href="mailto:k@d.com>k@d.com<a/> (instead of the original k@d.com)
Did I do something wrong?
What is causing the syncs to EPIM cloud (both from WEPIM and from AEPIM) to take ages, if only 2 appointments, 1 task, 1 note and 1 password have to be synced?

Just some extra info:
I'm working in WEPIM 12.1.2
Not in the currently available 12.2.2 because of the issue I reported here:
https://www.essentialpim.com/forum/view ... hp?t=39558
My setup:
WEPIM ProPort. 11.6.5 on Windows 10 <2-way sync over Wifi> AEPIM 6.0.13 on Samsung A52s 5G (Android 12 - One UI 4.1)

Synchronization performs faster on our end. Please send us the log files from WinEPIM so we can analyze them and identify what may be causing the delay in your specific case. Thanks.

I just sent you the WEPIM logs in a PM.

Or did you mean the AEPIM logs? In that case please let me know where I can find them: I activated logging in AEPIM (Settings > PC Sync), but I can't find the log.
In case an AEPIM sync log is only created after a sync has finished, please note that AEPIM keeps on syncing and never stops ...

Let’s start by analyzing the more detailed WinEPIM logs first. Once we've reviewed them, we can determine the next steps.

Hi admin,

Referring to your PM, I agree: first syncs in WEPIM were way slower, but now they are OK. Let's get back to WEPIM-side if it keeps hanging again - hopefully not.

But on AEPIM side, problem remains and persists. I've had a look in more detail:
  • In Notes and Tasks modules, AEPIM sync keeps going endlessly.
  • in Passwords module, username has changed from k@d.com on WEPIM side to <a href="mailto:k@d.com>k@d.com<a/> on AEPIM side
  • in Tasks module, I have 3 tabs in AEPIM but only 1 task list in WEPIM. Tasks in AEPIM don't sync to WEPIM and tasks in WEPIM don't sync to AEPIM
On WEPIM side:
  • in Calendar Module: every time I sync, appointments disappear. Next time I sync they reappear. This process keeps repeating with every sync
Any idea on how to proceed?

The issues could be related to the large number of items you mentioned you had in your database. Synchronizing 20K tasks alone can be a very resource-intensive process, especially for a mobile app.

Regarding WinEPIM, please send us log files from both synchronization attempts. We'll review them to identify what's causing the appointments to disappear and reappear after each sync.

There's a misunderstanding, admin.
For this entire topic I'm using a mini-database as described in the opening post. It has only 59 items in total of which 34 are in Trash.
So database in this topic has nothing to do with my live database you are referring to - that 's another forum topic.
I'll send you the WEPIM sync logs in a PM.

Hi admin,
Any suggestions on what might be causing AEPIM to hang on the cloud sync, knowing that for this topic I'm using a very small test-database (as mentioned in the PM)?
Kind regards

Does AEPIM become unresponsive only during the synchronization of a specific type of data? Identifying the exact data type involved should help us to at least narrow down the cause. Thanks.

On AEPIM side:
  • In Notes and Tasks modules, AEPIM sync keeps going endlessly.
  • in Passwords module, AEPIM sync does not keep going endlessly, but data is not synced correctly from WEPIM to AEPIM: after having synced a test password I notice that username has changed from k@d.com on WEPIM side to <a href="mailto:k@d.com>k@d.com<a/> on AEPIM side
  • in Tasks module, AEPIM sync does not keep going endlessly, but data is not synced correctly. After trying to sync a few times, I now have 3 tabs in AEPIM but only 1 task list in WEPIM. Tasks in AEPIM don't sync to WEPIM and tasks in WEPIM don't sync to AEPIM
On WEPIM side:
  • in Calendar Module: every time I sync, appointments disappear. Next time I sync they reappear. This process keeps repeating with every sync
Note that AEPIM does not become unresponsive during synchronization: while it keeps on syncing in Notes and Task module, I can switch to another module, so the ongoing sync doesn't make it freeze. It's just that as soon as I get back to Notes and Tasks module, there 's the endless sync again, so you never know when it's done syncing all your data ...

Does this answer your question, or did I misunderstand?
