Access violation at address...

Post by pirnie »

I am a licensed user of EssentialPIM Pro Portable and Outlook Synchronization.

Recently, I upgraded to EssentialPIM Pro Portable (U3) version 2.81 on Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit. Since that upgrade I have not been able to synchronize with my Microsoft Outlook 2003. The synchronization fails at Contacts. Every attempt results in an EssentialPIM Pro Portable error dialog box which reads: “Access violation at address 775AF897 in module ‘ntdll.dll’. Read of address 56B6593A.”

I have made no changes to either Outlook or EssentialPIM Pro Portable databases. I should note that the synchronization did work with the previous version of EssentialPIM Pro Portable. This problem has rendered EssentialPIM unusable for me.

Is there a fix for this problem and can you please assist me?

Hi,

did you upgrade EPIM, or Windows, or both?
If you upgraded EPIM, please try a regular Portable version, this one: http://www.essentialpim.com/download/es ... oport2.zip (unpack all files into any folder and open empty new database and synchronize it with Outlook. If needed you can use your Pro key). Would be interesting if problem will be there as well. If the problem will dissapear, please try synchronizing Your real database using this portable version. This way we will find out what's causing the problem.

I have experienced a similar problem but showing the violation at 7C91070F.

Following the link you have provided and using that version works OK, but there are multiple entries of the same event in my schedule following synchronization.

If I try ans synchronze my original database using this version I get "Access violation at address 38F040AC. Read of address 38F040AC.

Where do you suggest we go from here?

Seems to be a problem only on your computers. Will see if it gets fixed in 3.0.

As you have two people independantly reporting the same problem I don't think "It seems to be a problem only on your computer" quite covers it.

It may be worth remembering that most people don't even report such faults they simply assume the software isn't worth the effort stop using it and recommend their friends avoid it.

As a method of developing business I think this lacks a certain something, but what I do I know, I'm just one of the suckers that paid for it.

Thanks for your help, rather than waste your (and my) time further I'll use it more fruitfully researching a product that works.

I do not agree with you (and believe us we know our users and problems. Just look at number of posts in "Support section". I have personally answered more than 8 Thousand messages.)
But of course we will issue the full refund to you. Just tell the order number.

I also got the violation message for ntdll.dll for no apparent reason which caused me a number of issues - the major one being that itunes would no longer recognise outlook for syncing purposes.

After reading the posts above, i did the following :

- portable version no difference!
- clean install ... no difference.
- new database and then syncing with outlook... success! itunes now syncs as well.

I can only assume that my database got corrupted in some way which, in turn, made itunes fail to recognise the outlook file.

The only thing different that i did before this problem was syncing with google - coincidence ?

The only down side to all this is that I have 'lost' some updates but hay, all is now cool - outlook consigned to the (temp) bin once more! :-).

Do you have a means whereby various EPIM databases can be compared and/or merged ?

OK, so now I gonna respond to my own post !

After my success of this morning , I went through all my contacts to delete any duplicates and to do a general tidy-up exercise.

Saving, syncing to outlook then to iphone went great then bang ! Violation error...
ntdll.dll error...
ntdll.dll error...
ntdllError.jpg (9.66 KiB) Viewed 7153 times
Immediately prior to the error (which only happens during a sync) I was deleting duplicates BUT they did not actually delete...

Fortunately, I had a backup of a contacts file so, all I did was deleted all contacts, synced with outlook, synced iphone - no file/device now has contacts - imported my file and resynced.

So far so good... now to do all my alterations again...

As a thought, I have only had contact issues since I used 'groups'. Anyone else have an issue with groups ?
