Access Violation - Error on Start!

Post by Paderfisch »

hi there,

this screenshots are from "Essential PIM Pro 3.0 rc4"-version but on 3.01 is the same error after the reminder-screen (but different adresses).
on the first error-screen i click ok, the windows closes und the big epim window cames up with the second error-screen.
but you can not close epim on the close butoon, only kill the process with task manager (the 3 pic, with two epim processes)

i have xp pro sp2, athlon 1700+, 1gb ram

best regards
alex

Just to share my solution to this problem. I hope it is OK Max to do this as it is possible it resolves this users problems.

I had the same problem Paderfisch experiences on two notebooks and on a number of other computers that use XP Service packs 1 through 3 at work.

Quite by accident I came across the following solution to V3 EPIm load error this past week that is the subject of Paderfisch comments. Now my EPIM V3 works perfectly with an old database that goes back to V1.5.

I was trailing a software to convert Powerpoint presentation to video. The download link can be found at this address:
What I found after installation and removal of this software that EPIM 3 magically started to work again. Looking at the registry (before and after), I can see that this software added C+++ files and modified registry entries related to this.

I repeated the procedure for my second notebook and it worked again. I then tried it on work computers that would not load EPIM previously with the same result.

So the procedure is install and uninstall this software. Then, open EPIM 3.

I hope this helps the users of EPIM that experience this problem and point to possible error in EPIM V3 coding with respect to the changes introduced in this version for XP users.

Regards, lameduck

Hello,

regarding the post above- while I am happy if that would fix the problem, I just declare- this download is not endorsed by EPIM (as it may seem as this appeared on our forum) and use it on your own responsibility.

By the way, what if you right-click with a mouse on EPIM shortcut and choose "Run as administrator", will it start?

hi there,

it works now!

i installed "presentation-to-video.exe" (version 6 / about 20mb) - epim works!
i deinstalled ptv and deinstalled all shared dlls - epim works!
i deleted the geovid (the producer from ptv) folder in programms AND shared files
(yes there were some-bad uninstall) with about 10 dlls - epim works!
and i ran a registry cleaner (tune up) that deleted some ptv-entries - epim works!

rebooted windows a few times, works fine now. dont know what else this programm
installed but lameduck was right with the c++ files, that showed up on the ptv-install.

ah, resolution is/was 1280x1024! cant run as admin - forgot my p/w :?

Hello Terry and Max

below my experience with Access Violation and Support by EPIM:
I am just wondering when I can expect an reasonable working software for the money I payed for the licence.
and is my licence key still valid few month down the track when someone possibly come across a solution for the EPIM access violation. I am a bit disapointed that an insufficient working software was released by Astonsoft as I am using EPIM since version 1.5 and never had any problems with it (on any screen resolution you can imagine).
In the meantime I ran portable version on various memory sticks and 5 different desktops (XP pro and Vista) (downloaded 5 new portable versions to eliminate download errors) without any success.

Please advice urgently

Best Regards
Jens

Hello Jens,

as you asked for an urgent reply, here it goes- please revert to version 2.81, that's it. We will refund your upgrade if needed.
We are working on this, but it will take time. How much- difficult to say.
I am editing your post, as this is way too long for the forum.

Can someone confirm you have the same problem with Free version 3.01 as well, or not? Just download Free Portable for the test.
