multiple selection props assignment
Hi epim team!
When i select multiple notes and click on the "modify" - (all my notes stay selected) and choose to change an icon (for example) - only one note changes an icon.. whereas a user expects that all those selected notes get their icons reassigned.
ps a liitle digression...
It is well known that difference between a quality serious program and amauter ones is in attention to every minor detail. In other words - there is no such thing as a minor bug or something everything has the same high importance. Especially if it relates to already implemented features. I wish Epim would become a serious quality program so all my future posts will be focused only on suggestions on enhancing current functionallity as I believe that no new features can please a user more then refined and properly functioning current ones..
Thanks

Re: multiple selection props assignment
OK, here is another situation (just for discussion)- if user selects two notes, then right-click-> Rename. Should we rename the both Notes? (according tor your logic) If yes, how? We can not rename both notes at the same time, right?

Re: multiple selection props assignment
you have just highlited another deficiency. By default there must be no such situation when a user is unable to predict outcome.
In my option there is a clear need in a stop in the context menu handler which checks if selection is multiple and gray out irrelevant commands thus protecting users from dubious actions. - Rename must be grayed out on multiple selection
This situation also relates back to what i once noted - context menu doesn't handle copy paste controls states as well (if you remember they are grayed out when you edit a note name but if fact they shouldn't be)
such things in my opinios make a program untidy and affect its perception as a quality program
epim is a more sofisticated program then outlook but that doesn't mean that existance of such discrepancies is justified..
As an example of a good development i can point to xyplorer - the guy pays great attention to even the smallest detail and you forget him missing breadcrumb etc for the sence of the great quality of the product. So paraphrasing all said - the devil is in the detail))
regards
ps pls don't get offended - just want epim to grow much more serious))
ps so that not to open a new topic - i wanted to add that i would love to have case assist button in the place of the breakthrough button on the toolbar - most useless button in my opinion (is someone uses it in notes pls refute)

Re: multiple selection props assignment
OK, I agree- rename should be disabled on multiple selection.
But it also means that Modify should be also disabled on multiple selection? I mean, Rename is part of Modification.

Re: multiple selection props assignment
Some more irregularities
If I want to move out two adjacent notes in a tree and select them both and click move out - only one steps out
So my suggestion is to disable mutliple selection of notes etc at all as its implementation at this stage does still require a lot of planning and thinking and coding before it works properly
Epim will not loose any functionality with that cause it doesnt work anyway and then - when all conflicts are resolved for multiple selections - then EPIM can return that feature back

Re: multiple selection props assignment
Well, then making other controls (not only printing) work properly with multiple selections (in my opinion) should become the first priority as it relates to basic database operations and printing might be the last in this list by logic.
