Transparant Checkboxes
Normally the brain switches between 2 different "modes" when using the ToDo Module.
1) The "analyzing mode” - here is where we study the tree of information
2) The "decision mode" - here is where we take action on the tree of information
During analyzing mode, some people don't even touch the mouse. We just sit, staring at the screen, considering the next step to make.
Then, after we make a decision, we move our mouse/keyboard to make changes to our tree.
Therfore, we do not really need to see the checkboxes while in "analyzing mode". The checkboxes are necessary only when we move the
mouse to make changes. So if the checkboxes are transparent until they are required, it can help to focus more easily on our tree of information.
Please vote and let us know your opinion.

Re: Transparant Checkboxes
I can say that "Transparant" checkboxes are bad from usability point of view. Something appearing and dissapearing as you move the mouse will irritate users. When you start moving mouse, you want to see where you move it. Mouse-over hints are another story.

Please leave it as they are. Tranbsparent is bad for my eyes. Making them transparent is overkill, beter to put workingtime in other things like bugd.

Same here, at the moment I do not see this as an improvement.

Re: Transparant Checkboxes
I apologize if I was unclear. I did not mean to abandon the current GUI, but rather to add an option that users can select.
After checking around, some PIM titles use other methods to keep GUI elements in the outliner from getting in the way.
But the "no" votes made me go back and ask myself why I had this idea.
Here is the logic. Eergonomically, our brains interact with EPIM in two ways:
1) The "analyzing mode.” We don't even touch the mouse. We just sit, staring at the screen, considering the problem and the next step to make.
2) The "decision mode". Here is where we use the mouse/keyboard to make changes to our hierarchy. How much time users spend in "analyze mode" vs. "decision mode" will vary. However one thing is the same. We do not need to see the checkboxes while in "analyze mode", this is necessary only when we make changes.
The Windows 7 gadgets have options to set the opacity level. This is what gave me the idea to apply this aesthetic to our ToDo module. I admit it is a very innovative idea. So I am very interested in seeing what more comments/votes may come.

Re: Transparant Checkboxes
The point "something appearing and dissapearing as you move the mouse will irritate users" is well taken.
Perhaps there is a better way of doing it. For example, when the mouse moves around, keep the boxes transparent.
Then, only when the mouse is directly over the checkbox itself, it becomes opaque.

Re: Transparant Checkboxes
You might be right about analyzing and decision mode, but, I dare to say no software (maybe eyball tracking hardware?) can ever understand which mode a human is in, in our particular situation. Some people might be moving mouse around To-Dos while thinking.
I think there is no clear distinction between "modes" with a user.
When a user starts moving mouse, he wants to see the target checkbox, so showing checkbox only when users is over checkbox is not a solution either.

Re: Transparant Checkboxes
More suggestions =)
Short cut to hide/unhide check boxes.
Setting in preferences where you set the transparency level 0-100%.
Setting in preferences "hovering checkboxes" (only visible when mouse hover)

Nothing is free. If we make this option it means we spend less time on something else.davitof wrote:I don' like much this idea, but if it is an option, why not?

Of course. What I meant is that I am not against the idea as long as it is an option.

Re: Transparant Checkboxes
As pointed out by Maglet, this feature could be combined with another, "Faded Checkboxes".
The method was: Setting in preferences --> transparency level : 0-100%
100 = opaque
1~99 = faded (variable up to each user's preference)
0 = transparant
This way, development time of 2 features, could be consolidated into one, saving you time.
