Expand/Collapse by Category, Location, or Assignee
The "Category", "Location", and "Assignee" columns hold data that is common to many ToDOs.
We can sort our data by these feilds by clicking the header. But the eye does not really see the
information clearly separated into groups.
So, this idea, is to move the column you need to be grouped, for example "Category", to the far left,
and add an expand/collapse box. As seen in the picture, we could clearly see information separated
into thier groups this way. We could also expand only want we want to view at the same time.
To revert back to the original view, we just move the column back to where it was.
Please vote on this idea.

Re: Expand/Collapse by Location
No, for me sorting on location does not add any real value. ALTHOUGH off course when it is present, maybe I can "mis-use" the field for other purposes and use the group option. I would like to group on category, but that is another subject.
For now I have solved these kind of questions (could be done for location too) by creating dummy (master) groups in the ToDo section. I add my ToDo's to these dummy (master) groups and that gives me the option to expand/collapse as I require.

Re: Expand/Collapse by Location
I agree. After analyzing this issue further, I realized that sometimes I maybe "mis-using" the location field, simply because there are only 2 user-definable feilds, "Category" and "Location". Using "Category" alone, is not enough for organizing my information.
I would like to add that even when using "Location" properly, it is a very general term. It could mean a place, a country, a section in a warehouse, even the
name of a customer. So grouping by it might still be benificial when used in those ways.
in conclusion, I think you are not on a differnt topic, when you mentioned that you would like to be able to group by category. I am interested to see how this
plays out. I will modify the suggestion, so that it includes the THREE user-definable feilds, "Categories", "Assignees", and "Locations". Please see the edited
version of this thread, and re-vote/comment again.
Thank you
Christian

Re: Expand/Collapse by Category, Location, or Assignee
With the changed title and selection options in the poll I had to change my vote from no to yes. Would sure be easy if I could group the ToDo's by at least one of these fields.
Now I have solved it by creating dummy "groups" (that is ToDo's with no information, so that I can assign sub-tasks to them) in the ToDo section. It is a work around that I can abandon when grouping would be possible.

Re: Expand/Collapse by Category, Location, or Assignee
Yes, I agree with the possibility of grouping e.g. ToDos by Category (in fact I don't need to group by Location or Assignee).
It would be nice to group Contacts by Company (or City etc.).

+1
This will really clean the display up while adding very good functionality. Do I understand that we can move any field to the far left and do this?
Marc
Hey! w/ my vote, it indicates that about 91% of us like the feature enough to use it. Woohoo!

Re: Expand/Collapse by Category, Location, or Assignee
Yes, the idea is that when any field is moved into the first column, it would group the entire list by that feild.
Right now we dont have a "user-defined feild" yet. But if that idea gets implemented, then imagine the power
we would have over our information. We could have our own feild of information, and group by it too!
