Tablet and Laptop can't "see" each other
Tablet and Laptop can't "see" each other
Hi I recently bought an ASUS FT 300T Tablet running Android 4.0.3 - it is my first experience of Android.
My Laptop is Toshiba Satellite running Win Vista Home Premium SP2 with all updates
I downloaded and Installed EPIM Free 5.5 on the laptop and EPIM 1.8.2 for Android on the tablet. Data has been entered in EPIM contacts on the laptop. However. when I try to set up the synchronisation the tablet tells me "No PC's with running Windows Version Essential PIM detected. Make sure your smartphone and PC are connected to the same access point". They are! Rescanning produces the same result.
I select "Connect manually" and enter the IP address that the laptop gives me. This produces the message "Unable to Connect. Check firewall settings on your computer". I usually run Comodo Firewall V 5.12.256249.2599. I have prevented this from starting at system boot. I've also disabled "Apply recommended actions" and "Real Time protection" in the "Settings" Section Microsoft Security Essentials.
None of this appears to make any difference.
Where am I going wrong and can you help?
Many thanks

Re: Tablet and Laptop can't "see" each other
Please also try to disable Windows firewall for a while for testing purposes. Will you be able to connect then?
Android version of EssentialPIM. Keep all your data in sync!
Re: Tablet and Laptop can't "see" each other
Hi - thanks for the reply. I forgot to mention that the Windows Firewall is NOT running .

Has anyone solved this issue?

Re: Tablet and Laptop can't "see" each other
Yeah, I can't see that it's a problem with my AV or Firewall cos I disable them. Anyway, I've got another app (for transferring files to and from the tablet and laptop via wireless that involves one giving the other a unique IP address and that works fine even with all the scurity in place on the laptop.
I downloaded the professional version of EPIM and i get the same non-communication issue with that. A lot of the time the tablet doesn't even find and display the laptops's name, but even when it does, and the ip is typed in I get the same "Check your firewall settings.
Cintiag - are you using Vista or a different OS?

Hi, tuiruru, just making sure, in case you have skipped this step: have you started the sync procedure with: File/Synchronization/Add synchronization in your laptop EPIM program?
Beginning from Android side results in errors you specified above...

Ho Pocloud
Well, I've started to wonder if it's something to do with my connection speed. I live in rural New Zealand and am on a basic Broadband plan. Last week I went to what passes as a city over here and the two devices did actually "see" each other and the syncing went OK. I'm back to the "big smoke" this week, so will test the hypothesis. It seems a bit weired (or should that be "wired"
), but there we go.
Thanks for your input
