My wishlist for notes
I seem to be in the minority but my main use for epim is for the notes capabilities.
That being said, here is my wishlist for improvements to notes:
All search results for notes shown in one place, regardless of which tree they are in. If I have multiple trees and I do a search, I would like to see all the results in front of me and then just click on them to go to the entry. Right now I have to check each tree tab separately to see if I got the search hit I want.
Selectable positioning for tree tabs. I would like them on top, but the optimum would probably be to let the user select top, bottom or side. Right now, it's bottom only.
Insert notes where you want them instead of at the bottom of the list. If I insert a sibling note between two siblings, the new note goes to the bottom of the list. I would like it to stay in the same position at which I insert it.
Ipad app that handles notes - The android app handles notes, Having it for ios devices would be excellent for my uses.
Selectable Background colors for note panes. I'd like to be able to select a background color for the tree pane and the note pane so I can spot them more easily amid all the windows I open on my desktop.
Having all that would make epim just about perfect for my needs.

Re: My wishlist for notes
Todd, thanks for your suggestions. With regards to this one: "All search results for notes shown in one place, regardless of which tree they are in. If I have multiple trees and I do a search, I would like to see all the results in front of me and then just click on them to go to the entry. Right now I have to check each tree tab separately to see if I got the search hit I want." - you can achieve that through global search (shift+ctrl+f).
Android version of EssentialPIM. Keep all your data in sync!

Re: My wishlist for notes
Todd, you are not alone in your view of the Notes Module. Like yourself, it is this module that is most important for me too. I see that you have only recently joined, but if you have a look at past threads on this site you will see that a great many others either have notes as one of their most important, if not THE most important module for them. Many of us are in a dialogue with each other and the developers on these boards with a view to development of Notes, naturally in addition to that of the other modules too.
Cheers, Paul.
Cheers, Paul.

Re: My wishlist for notes
Thanks Paul - that's good to know. I liked epim well enough after a week to buy the lifetime license. One of the things I'm glad to see is that they have an active community and development team. Because of that, I can hope that the few tweaks I'd like to have to round things out will follow in time.

to 1)Selectable positioning for tree tabs.
+1 - I also want to position the tree-tab at top
to 2)
If I right click on a folder to add a new item the nearest position is ONE under the selected one.
This suggestion is something I don't need - BUT the behaviour of inserting new notes always annoys me - almost every day.
So please improve this.
+1

Re: My wishlist for notes
I agree - the behavior for inserting notes is very annoying. You shouldn't have to reposition a note to where you want it every time you create one.
Two other features that would be good to have:
1. a sticky format painter in the note, e.g. if you double click the format painter, it lets you paint multiple, separate lines with the chosen format until you dbl click it again to turn it off.
2. I would like items in the note tree NOT to expand to show the subnotes when I click on them or move the cursor along them. Sometimes I am just passing by, and sometimes I am clicking on an item to move it and don't want to expand it. I would like a note to keep whatever state it's in (expanded or contracted) until I specifically change it by clicking on the +/- icon or using the shortcut key.

A separate password for the Notes-module (apart from the master-password) !
Asking for years for that ... how slow is the development here with EPIM ??
With ViewMinder the changelog is giant in comparision ! http://www.vueminder.com/index.php?page ... y-ultimate
Max wrote in another treath :
A professional user don't use EPIM Pro for mailings !! EPIM Pro will stay a very small player on the PIM-market this way ! Why don't you see that ???
VueMinder has so much more improvements (you want 10 shedules and or 10 To-do-list or 50 Notes-categories in 1 view : VueMinder has it !!!)
So please, do something about that !!

Pro user here. One feature suggestion for the notes would be a Full-screen mode so that I could use the notes editor like a "distraction free" word processor.

Re: My wishlist for notes
Since I first posted my wishlist, I have had one of the items fixed, and found out the capability for another was already there.
That's good work.
If I had to name my BIGGEST #1 annoyance with notes, it is the fact that whenever I insert a note into the tree, it automatically goes to the bottom of whatever topic I insert it into, instead of staying where I place it. This is extremely annoying as I have to enter the note and then position it back to where I entered it every time. On large topics, this is the worst but even for small ones - why should I have to position the item again when I already inserted it right where I want it?
If you could fix just this one behavior in the next release or even in the next bug fix, I would be be ecstatic.
Still on my wishlist, but minor in comparison to above:
1. User to select tree tab position - top, bottom, L side, or right side
2. Double click format painter brush to lock format in until dbl clicked again. Then I could "paint" multiple targets with one pass instead of having to re-prime the format painter each time.
3. Getting Notes on the Ipad app would be HUGE!
Thank you for listening. Please fix the note positioning problem as soon as possible.
Todd

Re: My wishlist for notes
Max, I have long trees, and Todd's main issue I have quoted here really is a "big deal" that I hope you will seriously address soon. I have inserted new notes in trees and spent seemingly needless time placing them where they should have been in the first place. Worst, if I don't remember that I have to do this, the note could be lost.todd wrote:Since I first posted my wishlist, I have had one of the items fixed, and found out the capability for another was already there.

Overall, though, I have been through many PIMs in the past several decades, including the DOS O/S era, and ePIM has worked best for me for several years now. Some people start their day with a cup of coffee, I start mine in almost every module of ePIM!

Re: My wishlist for notes
Thank you, once more to confirm we are now working on fixing the Notes placement issue. However, it may take a couple of minor versions until it makes into public release.

Re: My wishlist for notes
I would LOVE to have Notes on iPhone - then sync would, for me , be complete.
BTW well done with getting sync of Calendar and ToDo (largely) sorted out (in my case, for iPhone), now this makes EPIM Pro my, at long last, Lotus Organizer replacement. In fact it has been this for ages, but the No.1 reason I walked away from Lotus Organizer was the complete lack of any syncing capabilities or any plans (I spoke with them) of IBM to re-engineer it to do so - or - to sell or licence it for others to develop. So I'm with you for the ride into the future!
