Need to find Essential PIM database on Win 11

Post by Skysails »

I'm getting ready to reinstall win 10, and want to find the data. When I search for Essential PIM, my PC takes me to Effecient PIM, which I had before... NOT Essential PM, and I cannot, for the life, find it the database

Thanks,
Lynn

Try to look into:
C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\EssentialPIM Pro

I think that's where it is created if you don't specify another place.

Edit: maybe you need to make invisible folders visible in the settings to see the AppData Folder.
(Edit2: I am no admin or official from the EPIM staff, just another user :) )

In my case I would find it in
C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\EssentialPIM Pro
Everything I mention comes out of my experience. I'm not an expert. Feel free to try anything I suggest ... but always at your own risk.

Click on File->Database Management, the database file location will be shown at the top.
Android version of EssentialPIM. Keep all your data in sync!

Got it... when I tried to follow the link, Windows just opens the app, no way to copy the database, but I found it with a work around.

Thanks for your reply,
Lynn

I ran into this same situation yesterday. After an update, I had to find my database to reopen it. It was in that hidden directory. I only found it because I searched my whole PC for *.epim, so your screen message was helpful. But it might have been more helpful if the screen pointed where EssentialPIM creates the database by default instead of finding that out through a user forum.

I just feel complled to say it's really hard for a user to routinely backup crucial files like this when they're placed in a hidden folders. I ran into a similar issue with another program yesterday that utilized C:\ProgramData....which is also hidden. Yet we're chided if we don't have a "backup" when our PC crashes.

I love this program, BTW.

In Windows file explorer click VIEW then check the box next to Hidden Items to show them. While you are at it make sure File name extensions is also checked, and I like the item check boxes as well. anyway, when you do this always, you don't have the hidden file problem. Otherwise it will bite you sooner or later.

As for backups. EPIM has a nice internal backup program. tools > Options > General > Backup. Select a folder on another drive, a backup interval and a number of backups.

If you are clever you will have another backup program backing up your backup.
