Birthdays not displayed in Calendar

Post by DoctorBrown »

I was cleaning up my database removing duplicate entries in the Agenda display. While doing this, I was changing display parameters, sort field, display dates, and view categories. Then I noticed that the Birthdays were not displayed in any setting. So I went back to the Month display and the birthdays still were not displayed. But if I select a day of a birthday I see the notification in the bottom status bar.

How do I get the birthdays to display correctly?

I have closed and re-opened the app. I've unchecked and rechecked the box in the pane to the right of the left navigation pane.

Check if the Birthday field in contacts (use the Edit Fields button from the toolbar) is set to be displayed as appointments in calendar.

Yes, that's the way. Although, you can select any contact, it doesn't need to be with birthday.

I was not clear enough... Up until a few days ago, the birthday events were displayed in the days of the calendar, and in the notification bar at the bottom. Now the birthday events, do not display in the days of the calendar in month or Agenda views (or any of the options). Here is a screenshot showing this:

I've read all through the forums but cannot find a solution...

A very few (maybe 5%) of the birthdays that are in contacts show up in the calendar. I want them all to show up.

The birthday category is the default category for the birthday field.
The birthday category is selected to display in the calendar. (That's how I can see some of them.)

Why would only some appear. What am I doing wrong?????

TIA...

What happens if you create a new test contact and then check the calendar, will the contacts' birthday appear there?

I created the new test contact and the birthday appeared immediately!

So the issue is how can I get existing contacts' birthdays to appear. I will admit that they were there a long time ago, but between system crashes, new OS, and general insanity, I lost them all but a very few.

Thanks...

What happens if you copy and paste these contacts? Will the birthdays show up for the newly created copies? If they do, you could keep the working copies and delete the originals that aren't functioning properly.

Yes, copy and paste works. But that's a lot of contacts, and then I have to individually edit out "Copy 1" from each one.

But, knowing that this works, is there another way to get these birthdays back in my calendar without having to copy/paste each one?

Once you have the working copies of the contacts, use the Replace tab in Advanced Search (Ctrl+Shift+F) to remove the "Copy 1" suffix.

I think it worked! THanks for sticking with me to solve this.

But can't there be an easier way to "refresh" birthdays to the calendar?

This isn't a common type of operation and there are several possible ways to resolve it. Glad to know the one suggested above worked.
