syncing to android google notes has been a consistent problem..

Post by johncesta »

I love epim I must say. But the syncing to google drive for notes is very unreliable. I suppose perhaps syncing text may be ok but images and or attachments is abysmal.

For as long as epim has been trying to get this right, it's just not yet. In this latest version it is closer than it's ever been. But is it close enough?

Not yet.

I guess the question is whether you use epim only on the laptop or if you want access to your notes while roaming around.

Are you able to identify any patterns or recurring steps that may be causing the sync issues you described? If there is a specific sequence of actions that consistently leads to the problem, we can attempt to replicate it and work towards finding a solution. Thank you!

No. None.

There are no images in android notes that I've added differently than others.

I only have 5 or so notes in EPIM. And only 2 of them have images. so my environment is not complex.

The images sync to google and are seen on Google drive and they are visible on the laptop. But they are place holders on my phone and tab s9

Upon initially syncing them from the laptop to google drive they were visible on the phone. Then later and now they are just placeholders.

See my attachments. One is a placeholder. However the other attachment is the images that are in the note and on google drive.

I do have two google drive accounts but all my epim notes only sync with the one google drive account.

I mean as far as a pattern, I am a simple user. I run epim in my phone and add a note and an attachment. Or, I am on my laptop and "add an attachment"

There is no complexity in how I operate. I have all brand new equipment. An android s22 ultra with updated OS and a Samsung galaxy book 3 with windows always updated 11.

Are you referring to inline images, attached images, or both options? Also, could you please specify the platform on which the images/attachments were initially added?

John, thanks for your input. However, we don't see any mention of Android in the list of steps. If we follow the six mentioned points and add the seventh, which is AEPIM synchronization with Google Drive, the attachment is there in AEPIM. Can you try to reproduce the issue using the steps you mentioned?

Yes I click sync now in the android version of epim in the NOTES. I click and click and click SYNC NOW. NOTHING

1. Choose a note
2. Click on the paperclip to add an attachment
3. add an image
4. sync to google drive
5 run android version of epim
6 click on notes
7. Click sync now
8. click on an image stored in a note-NOTHING but a place holder
9. Click on another image stored in a note-NOTHING but a placeholder
10. Get frustrated
11. Try again. This time I add a note in the android version of EPIM
12. I attach a n image
13. I click sync now
14. I click to view the image - nothing but a placeholder
15. Start again at NUMBER 1 above
16. Repeat - Nothing
17. PRAY that an image will appear - NOPE. Just a place holder
18. All images are on google drive and all appear on the laptop version of EPIM
19. PRAY AGAIN

Windows 11 with all latest updates
epim latest and greatest

I trust now I haven't missed anything.

Here are some more steps for your review. I do not know what else I can show you. I wish I could click my heels and magically have you in my house to personally show you.

But to be honest this has been happening to me for the years off and on as I tried epim thru the years. I will say at this time the actual note syncing to google drive works better than ever for text but for me not yet for images.

If you look thru the forum thru the years you will see my posts on this topic. I am not a Firestarter or anything.

I wish it worked, then epim would be the most perfect solution.

These pics are only one note and image but in all my notes with images it does the same thing. Like I said, I only have 5 or six notes. and only a few have images.

I noticed that the attached image doesn't have an extension in the Android EPIM. If you try to attach any other image to a test note and repeat the above-mentioned steps, will it work as expected? We're still unable to reproduce the problem on our side, though.

they all have extensions. Like I tried to convey. I am not doing anything complex. I simply use the software as designed. I add an attachment and sync.

So I just did this

1. Added an attachment to a note on AEPIM.
2. It displayed for me numerous times.
3. I did a sync on AEPIM
4. It continued to display for me
5. I viewed the image on laptop EPIM and it displayed
6. I did a sync on laptop EPIM
7. Now when I go on AEPIM the image no longer displays only a place holder

Did all this again

1. Added an attachment to a note on AEPIM.
2. It displayed for me numerous times.
3. I did a sync on AEPIM
4. It continued to display for me
5. I tried to display it one more time, just a place holder

So just adding the attachment, displayed it a few times then tried to display it one more time, nothing just a place holder

That's really all I have for now.

Okay, that's good progress. Now we understand that the attachment should be added in AEPIM initially, not in WinEPIM. As for point number 3, although it's not explicitly mentioned, we assume that synchronization is done to Google Drive. Can you confirm if you're able to see the image correctly using your browser while it's in Google Drive?

Now, let's discuss what happened between point number 4 and number 5. Did you exit AEPIM and then return to it after some time, or did something else occur?

No, it doesn't matter where I add the attachment, I can add it from Android or PC.

I am telling you there is no rythm or reason. I use epim like a normal user. I add attachments from android, I add them from PC I still get the same result. I Don't do anything in between. I can always see the attachments on the PC. Always. The attachments are always on google drive. Always. They just fail to display on aepim on my Samsung s22 ultra.

This is not a complex thing and one in which I do not have any more time to fuss with it. It doesn't work for me and that's that.

Maybe you can't reproduce it and I can't believe that it's only me. Again this has always been a problem with epim and I've used many different laptops and phones thru the last 5 years. Same problem. Always been a problem.

So we can cancel out environment, equipment versions of EPIM etc.

Sorry but I need to move on.
