Dump Outlook!!

Post by wfrance3 »

OK -

I'm about an inch and a half from being able to dump Outlook (Yea!) but need a couple of things in order to make that happen:

1. Absolutely need Window Mobile 5.0 My Blackjack has to sync all my contacts, notes, and todo items sot tah I cn have them with me when I travel and am away from the office.

Calendar would be nice too, but not necessarily a deal breaker for me because I use google/birdie sync and that works just fine, but others might appreciate being able to get their calendar info to sync with WM 5.0. In fact, if you could make it so that you can opt-out of the various parts of EPIM (sync contacts but not calendar for example) via check box that would be great.

2. Contact categories. In Outlook I have contacts broken up into category groups, i.e. clients, competitors, friends, etc. It looks like you may already have this via "contact groups" but it did not translate that way when I imported from Outlook. This may relate to my next request.

3. One last thing (long as I'm asking for stuff) if there was a way for us end users to custom map the import from Outlook to EPIM that would be great. I have around 1,200 contacts to migrate and there are a couple of import destinations that I would change if I could. I would make email business email for example.

Overall, congratulations on a great program. It runs stable on my PC and has a really nice interface. Aside from the above requested stuff, I really like it and would switch away from Outlook right now if it just did these few additional things.

Best,
WF

Hello,

1- is in plans
2- yes, Outlook distribution lists are not translated into EPIM Groups. Maybe we will implement it, maybe not.
3- you can import CSV data into contact where you can manually map all the fields. I believe Outlook can export contacts into CSV.

With regard to item #2, the "categories" part of outlook is not for distribution lists as I know it. It is merely a way of segregating contacts into, well, categories, not necessarily distribution lists. A field that could be used to flag each contact as to its contact type (category) would suffice. That's all Outlook does. If there were an option to import my contacts' categories into EPIM's "Contact Groups" that would be fine, or just a category field that would keep all the contacts of a certain type together. For example, all the clients could be together in one group, A-Z, then competitors together in the next group, A-Z, and so on.

As to #2

When importing fields from Outlook or Palm you could map the the categories from each into EPIM Groups. This is something that would be of great use to all I think. Thanks.

You are right, yes, but so far no such feature.
