Can't sync palm tungsten E2
Can't sync palm tungsten E2
Hi:
I just started using epim portable, and it's really doing the job for me - just love it so far. However, I'm having synch problems.
I'm using USB stick with 2 machines; my notebook under Vista, and my desktop with XP. I have an E2, and both machines have hotsync 6.x. Initially I was syncing fine with the notebook. Then I successfully synced with the desktop, and since then I can't sync at all. I have tried:
- repeatedly enabling and disabling synchronization
- created a new database - that made it work once only
- did a hard reset on the palm; that removed my contacts from the desktop, but did nothing else.
When I try to sync, the log message on the palm is:
- EPIM StartSync
- EPIM Synchronization failed
The message on the desktop log includes:
Open file: F:\EPIM\Database\TEST.EPIM
EPIM StartSync

It has the correct database, other items are syncing properly.
Have to get this working.. any help is much appreciated.

Thanks for the quick reply. Did as you asked, and here is the log-

You must first open the Documents To Go desktop application, select the appropriate handheld user, and synchronize again.

OK Backup

I was also wondering, is it normall that the EPIM conduit in Hotsync doesn't offer you any configuration choices (i.e. what overwrites what) ?

Sorry about that - I was in a hurry to get to an appointment. As of this morning:
- hard reset the palm
- created a new epim database
- successfully synchronized twice
So the basic process works fine.
Then tried to sync to my real EPIM database and it failed. The relevant part of the log is attached. The error message you see there is one of two I have been getting. The other refers to an invalid date in a task record form 2031; I have found and deleted that record, but it fails anyway.
It apears to be a data problem, but the dilemma is how to get my data in to a 'clean' database. I'm also wondering if there is any way to set what overwrites what, like you can do with other conduits?

There is no way to set what overwrites what. EPIM itself determines that and there have been no complaints in this regards.
You can try to synchronize your database with a new one using EPIm Sync. If that does not help, you can send database to us and we will either fix the synchronization or database.

I took your advice and imported my database into a new one using epimsync. Then deleted the sync history, hard reset the palm and synchronized with the new database. Perfect, and it seems to be updating changes properly in both directions.
Thank you, and I have to say I am thrilled with the level of support for this superb product. I've rejected a few other decent products because the level of support wasn't there. It's so nice to see someone doing it right.

Martin
