Opera style navigation pane

It would be great to have the possibility to hide/show the "Navigation pane" like in the Opera browser. In Opera, in order to show/ hide the corresponding pane you just need to click anywhere on the left screen edge. That's extremely convenient. I miss it on every other application where is a pane on the left side of the screen...
