V12 - The Enshittification
What the fxck have happend to EPIM?!
We have gone from NO PRISM to "send unanonomys user data" checked by deafult!
I just "updated" to the V12 version and found this complete garbage in the settings, and it was CHECKED! I paid for this program.
The enshittification began with AEPIM (a program that I also payed to use) that tried to contact 1e100.net even if " send non anonomys user data" was unchecked, a thing that has been going on for years that has been met with silence from the developers.
I set up my own calendar server and swapped android client to get around the issue but this time it is the main fuxxxng program!
Lets hope the sending of non anonmys data is as buggy as the rest of version 12 and no use data got sent.
It maked little difference that I can switch the setting off, just the total enshittification it is to add such a monetizing "feature" shows that de developers have shifted focus. The question now is what program should I shift to, for now I will revert to the old version.

Re: V12 - The Enshittification
Konserv, I also found this option checked, but I do not think Astonsoft do any evil with our data, I think this is really for making the program better. Ok, it should be unchecked at default, but on installing a new version you should check all settings anyway!
Just my opinion.
Just my opinion.

Under no circumstances should this be set automatically. Either it must be turned off after the update or a query must appear during the update. Information on data protection would also have to be displayed.
I would like to remember EPIM's statement and expect EPIM to stick to it even here under "other surveillance"

If I interpret the information on the internet correctly, Estonia falls under the DSGVO/GDPR, which certainly does not tolerate unasked activation.

Re: V12 - The Enshittification
Data protection is an important and very sensitive topic!
If the checkbox were simply off to standard or if a query came up during installation/update as to whether you wanted to send anonymous data or not, there wouldn't have been much discussion here. So there is an uneasy feeling.
It would be nice if EPIM/Astonsoft would consider this in future changes.

That page needs an update, just looking at the first point alone we now know it is now incorrect.aurio wrote: Fri May 31, 2024 6:21 am Under no circumstances should this be set automatically. Alot of programs have these data sending settings but this is EPIM a program that is held to a higher standard.
Re: V12 - The Enshittification
It is not about standards but about data protection and this right must not be ignored without consent.
Unfortunately, Astonsoft no longer has a current and clear statement on data protection.
Astonsoft occasionally requests databases containing passwords and other sensitive data as part of bug fixes. For the time being, I will refrain from sending data until "all" of the issues mentioned have been clearly clarified.
>> What data is collected?
>> Which data is passed on to whom?
>> Is data also collected by third parties (which data)?
>> Who uses which data for what purpose?
>> When and where is consent obtained for the collection and use of data by Astonsoft?

Re: V12 - The Enshittification
I did a new install of EPIM in a VM and EssentialPIM is absolutely hammering stat.essentialpim.com.
Reading the EULA I could not find anything about telementry, the closest thing was this.
"4. SUPPORT SERVICES. Astonsoft may provide you with support services related to the SOFTWARE. Use of Support Services is governed by the Astonsoft polices and programs described in the user manual, in online documentation, and/or other provided materials, as they may be modified from time to time.
