No logon as sysdba
Hello,
I want to edit users but I have no menu-item "user" although I have admin-rights.
It looks like only the sysdba has the possibility to edit users?!
Now I tried to logon as sysdba, but the message appeared: "to connect to epim-server you need a network licence". (this is translated from german language)
We have 5 network-licenses.
Don´t know what to do any more.

Re: No logon as sysdba
Hello,
yes, only SYSDBA can edit users.
If you get this message- it means more users are connected than your license allows (check how many users are logged in and what Help-> About says about number of licenses)

Help --> about says 5 licenses.
Nobody else is connected. I can log on with user name, log out and then try to log in again with sysdba then the message appears.
That´s strange because a user can logon and the sysdba not.

Please reboot the server to make sure there are no lost connections to the server.

Re: No logon as sysdba
I Stopped the firebird server-task on our server and started the task again - then I could logon as sysdba. But now the following message appeared:
Your database needs consistency check. Please wait...
And then:
Backup of your database file did not succeed. Either there is not enough
space on your backup disk or the database file needs consistency check.
Restart EssentialPIM immediately to re-run database checks and
backup.
The database has a size of 23.909.724 KB (!). The backup folder is the same folder as the database-folder.
This only appears for sysdba

Re: No logon as sysdba
Well, you really have to make sure there is enough space for backups.
Yes, this message should appear only under SYSDBA, as only under SYSDBA backups are made.

Re: No logon as sysdba
OK, then just let EPIM check the database as it suggests. It might take time, considering database size.
I would also suggest using EPIM Archiver http://www.essentialpim.com/get-epim to archive older items into a separate database.

Re: No logon as sysdba
I guess EPIM DID check the database but then tried to backup. This backup was not working and the massage mentioned above appeared.
When I unchecked the "enable backup" checkbox under "Tools-->Options-->Backup" the database check worked obviously (Theres was message for several seconds "checking databease or so). I could close and reopen the database afterwards without the message.
When I then wanted to optimize the database using the Optimize-Button in the Database Management the message appeared again.
So perhaps it´s something about backup.
I then installed EPIM directly on the server. But connecting to database showed the same problem as from clients: User-logon yes - sysdba-logon no!
I logged out, then stopped the firebird task and opened the database via File --> Open... This brought me without username and pw in the sysdba session.
Now I could optimize the database. It decreased in size from 23 GB to 800 MB. And a backup file was created.
I closed the file and restart firebird. I could logon again but it was the same behaviour as before. First logon after firebird restart is possible for sysdba. If any other user logs on and off it is impossible for sysdba to logon again ("to connect to epim-server you need a network licence")
So I have to do this workarounds to edit users and to backup database:
To edit a user:
1. All users have to log off
2. I reboot firebird server
3. I log on as sysdba and can edit users.
To do database tasks:
1. All users have to log off
2. I stop firebird server
3. I open database via "File --> open..."
4. I optimize or backup database
5. I close database
6. I restart firebird server
7. Users can logon again
I guess this is not how it should be. Any Idea why it is like it is?
Info:
We are working with firebird version 2.5.3 on server 2012R2. The database is in a public folder on the server.
The clients are WIN7, we use EPIM 5.82 Network.

Re: No logon as sysdba
Hello,
first of all, EPIM uses Firebird 2.1.5, looks like you are using unsupported server version. Please use file from this page: http://www.essentialpim.com/download/Es ... roNet5.exe
Regarding backup: help file clearly advises to use 3rd party backup utilities for Network version: http://www.essentialpim.com/help/backingup.htm
In most cases you do not need to optimize database manually, it will do it automatically from time to time.

Hello,
deinstalling Firebird 2.5.3 and reinstalling 2.1.5 solved all the problems. Now even the build-in backup of EPIM works.
Thanks a lot!
