Difficulty importing from MS Outlook

I am new to EssentialPIM and have just installed the product. I have a .pst file in Outlook 2002 and I want to move forward the data into epim. Using the Import-> Outlook dialogue I point to the .pst file and after ticking
Calendar
To Do
Notes
Contacts

I get the message:
The information service has not been configured. Select an existing file to configure or type the name of a hew file to create
I don't know what this means or how to respond. I tried creating a new file but, after typing a name, it gives an error message saying there is an execution error and gives some complicated set of diagnostics which I can send to the developer. Before I do that, am I doing something wrong?

Hello,

EPIM heavily uses Outlook components to import Outlook data. That's the only legal way to import this data.
Please start Outlook and make sure it is working fine with your file.

I'm using Outlook on an old computer running Windows XP and it's working fine with my Outlook data. My objective is to convert the data to
EssentialPIM and then transfer the converted file to Windows 10 and continue to use the data there. If I can do this successfully I am proposing to purchase a copy of EssentialPIM and abandon the XP setup altogether. I'm stuck at the moment being unable to do the conversion under Windows XP.

hello ojos,
I'm using Outlook on an old computer running Windows XP and it's working fine with my Outlook data.
Download EPIM portable, copy this and your database on a flash drive, open it on your old computer, import your data, and than copy your database back to your new computer....

Yes I've tried doing this numerous times over several weeks and it doesn't work. I have a number of historical copies of my outlook data file and have tried each one without success. Whatever I do it continues to fail with the same error that I reported at the start of the thread. Upon failure your EPIM product does have an option to send an error report to the developer but it requires a default email client in order to use that. As my Windows XP device is old, I haven't used it for email for several years. In fact the only reason I am retaining this PC is for running Outlook (which I only use for calendar / contacts / tasks and notes and not for email). I'm desperate to move off this old PC and the inability to convert my outlook file is now the only reason for keeping it.

Unless I can import my existing outlook database into Essential PIM there is little point in my purchasing the product.

You can copy-paste the full error text and send it via any other email (e.g. Gmail)
Without having access to the file, it is difficult to reproduce and fix the issue.

OK, I have a copy of the full error text. Where/who do I email it to?

OK I have emailed the error text on Sunday and hope you have received it. Incidentally the version of the product I used was v7.63.

While I was researching the history of the problem I found an earlier version of essentialPIM v4.01 which I used a few years ago for a short while. To my amazement this appears to be able to import my Outlook files. I'm still checking this out but does it show there's a bug in v7.63 preventing the import?

Hello,

thank you for the log. It clearly states "MAPI was unable to load the information service pstprx.dll. Be sure the service is correctly installed and configured."

It is difficult to say why it is so in your particular case. You can import into 4.01 version and then open the same database in 7.64 version (latest)

The error message on my screen didn't mention MAPI or pstprx.dll but just said:
This information service has not been configured. Select an existing file to configure or type the name of a new file to create.
When I click on OK it just returns me to my Outlook data folder and prompts me to select a .pst file. I gave up at that point.
How, as an end user, am I supposed to work out what information service hasn't been configured?
For my v7.63 (the latest available at the time) I just downloaded Essential PIM portable, unzipped it and ran the resulting .exe file. I got the aforementioned error message when I tried to import my Outlook file. Is there any documentation to tell me what to do now to get it to work properly?

I am still having difficulty importing from Outlook. As mentioned in a previous post, I had a success in a test import into essentialPIM v4.01. However that no longer works and now gives the same failure so I am still stuck not able to import. You have mentioned this is something to do with MAPI and pstprx.dll. I have no idea what MAPI and pstprx.dll are or what I need to do to install or configure them in order to get my import to work.

I am totally stuck. Please advise what I can do to import my Outlook file so I can move on from this problem and purchase and use essentialPIM based on my historic Outlook data.

Hello,

it is difficult for us to fix the issue on Outlook 2002, which was released 16 year ago, long before EPIM.
Outlook is not also on the list of supported software:
https://www.essentialpim.com/pc-version ... ns#outlook
we support MS Outlook or Exchange server 2003 / 2007 / 2010 / 2013 / 2016
